The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is smoky, chocolate, roasted malts. I don’t really get too much of the pepper in here, mostly just the smoke. Taste is somewhat bitter and smoky. Nice and thick. Lingering smoky aftertaste. An intense porter. Chipotle is mild in the taste, and you have to think about it to really get it.

Lingering aftertaste of campfire, but in a pleasant and rewarding way. Smells incredible. Chipotle is quite mild but the bite is there, blended well I think.

Keg at Euston Tap, London on 15 June. Not for those who don’t like spice. Pours a beautiful dark, almost black colour with a brown head. Burnt malts mingle with the chipotles. Coffee and dark, bitter chocolate and offset by the chilli tingling which spreads through the mouth. Chipotle and porter - How can you lose?

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is the Chipotle Porter version I received from madbeerbaron in a trade. Thanks again! Pours a completely opaque, very dark brown, with a well-retaining khaki-brown colored head. The head is reminiscent of a root beer float. Dark chocolate, cocoa, and licorice on the nose, with a bit of char wafting out as well. No chili notes to speak of. The mouthfeel is thick, but not viscous. A lot of smoke in the flavor. Chili pepper is noted very clearly. Sweet malt in the middle. Finishes with a charred flavor.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark beer with a foamy brown head. Rich chocolate nose with hints of the heat to come. This is a full flavored porter with chocolate, molasses, roasted grains and a flavorful pepper note. The heat starts out subtly but grows as you drink the bottle. It ends with a nice warming burn. Nice user of heat in beer.
