Rosebud butternuts (2396) - Denton, Texas, USA - AUG 7, 2010
bottle from market street. poured jet black with a copper head. aroma was chocolate, burnt malt, and a zesty spicy kick. flavor was caramel, chili pepper, iodine, and dark roast. body was medium with medium carbonation and finished with a burn in the throat.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2010 (750ml bottle thanks to Mora2000) jet black pour, lasting dark tan oily head with excellent lacing. Nose of spicy peppers, fudge, and dark chocolate. Taste of spicy pepper, cayenne powder, fudge, sweet chocolate and roastiness. Thick body, creamy and the heat from the chipotle pepper really warms up the back of your throat. This is awesome stuff, absolutely no alcohol detected. While not high in alcohol, it’s usually at least detectable to some degree for me anyway.

BCTC 2010, ratebeer tent, my bottle. darker pour, roasted malt aroma with hints of the pepper heat. Flavor has pepper heat that builds up as you go. Chipotle smokeiness & heat build on the palate for awhile. Solid porter roastiness & flavor. Good beer

Bottle of Chipotle Porter. Poured black with a lasting deep brown head. Aroma was full of roasted malts with a bit of smokiness and a hint of chipotle, well balanced. Flavor was similar with chocolate and roasted malts in the beginning with growing smokiness and chipotle in the finish. Aftertaste had a bit of a chipotle/jalapeno.

Poured from bottle Very nice nose -- almost a mole-like aroma. Dark, dark, dark, with an espresso head. Flavor is dry and complex -- there’s a lot of roasty notes, chocolate, a touch of licorice. The peppers really kick in on the finish; I feel them in my throat more than taste them. Very nice beer.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2011 On tap at KØ-10. It looks lovely in the glass, with it’s black body and brown head. The aroma and flavor is just as gorgeous, and I’m really looking forward to have it again. The aroma has roasted malts, alcohol, licorice, lots of roasted malts and a nice chili touch. The chili leaves a pleasant warmth in the flavor, with coffee and roasted malts as a base, some licorice coming through too. Full-bodied and chili-warming, with chili and roasted malts in the finish. Chili the most evident of those. Ummmm. Rating: 9-5-9-4-17-4.4. 100506

Bottle, 75cl. A black one, looking unclear, and topped by a medium sized tan head. Smoked nose with coffee, chocolate, chipotle chili, some sweetness and a touch of peanuts. Rather toasted, smoked flavor with chili, choclate, coffee and a malty sweet backbone. Full-bodied, warming and hot, finishing with roasted malts, coffee and chili. A balanced beer with lots of delicious flavors. Even though I downrated it a bit, it’s still a gorgeous beer, one I need to revisit. 101015

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2010 On draught (from a recyclable cardboard keg) at 33 Wine Shop & Tasting Bar in St. Louis. The beer is a dark brown color with a thick tan head that diminishes slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Savory aroma of chili peppers and roasted malt. Medium body with flavors of peppers, malt, coffee and some other spices in the background. The finish is spicy with a lingering smoky aftertaste. Interesting, above average beer all around.

A good looking black bodied beer with a very good tan head. Lots of chilli infused chocolate and peppery spicy notes. Some coffee and lots of roasty character. Really well balanced for a chilli beer. Surprisingly good stuff.

Re-rated by Sim - the true Texan (on tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival): Aroma is sweet but bitter with wine and whisky. Pitch black appearance with great lacing. Roasty bitter flavour. It’s that last espresso on a long night. It’s that corner of toast that you’d have cut off and thrown away if only you weren’t that hungry. I wish there was more chili. It’s just a tiny bite of heat. I’d love to drop some chipotle Tabasco into this. Thick and tasty palate. It’s really good. Yeehaw!

Pours very dark brown with a dense sturdy brown head. The aroma has lots of chocolate, roast, leather and light smoke. Medium / full body with some soft carbonation. The flavor initially has chocolate, smoke, chipotle spiciness and a good amount of roastiness. The finish is crisp and has more chipotle taste than I thought could come from a beer. This is quite interesting and I’m glad I tried it, but I wouldn’t want it too often.
