3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 buzz_and_hum (146) - Wellington, - APR 10, 2012Pours deep brown with a luxuriant tan head. Coffee and a bit of spice on the nose. Deep rich chocolate flavour, a gritty coffee undertaste and a lot of chilli kicks through immediately. The chilli lingers, rolling around with an almost Irish coffee sensation to create something quite unique. Delicious. Each mouthful is fascinating, from the lathering chocolate to the roasted chilli. A "special" beer though, wouldn’t choose it for everyday drinking, however.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 prawlie (870) - Berkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 17, 2013
Half Pint at Euston Tap. Black with slight bubbly dark yellow-brown head. Spicy, ’hot’ but otherwise smooth chilli beer. Quite different to the barrel aged version if I recall it rightly.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 zacgillbanks (1022) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - JUN 15, 2013
Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. An inky black beer with a quickly disappearing thin brown head. Initial chocolate flavours are followed by sweet red fruit, roasted coffee and roasted barbecue notes with a warming, spicy chilli finish. Excellent!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tfredvik (650) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 14, 2013
This is the most viscous looking beer I’ve had in a very long time: the pitch black liquid barely drips out the bottle! A large, creamy and very dense head with a scary dark brown colour forms easily and stays big for a long time before settling as a thick layer. Lots of foam is still clinging to the glass after the Texas Ranger is gone. The aroma is very strong and not surprisingly on the malty side. It’s heavily roasted with dark caramel coffee and liquorice, some fainter chocolate and in the back I get traces of fruits and berries and even some juicy tobacco. Delicious! I can’t say I pick up any chilli in the aroma, but the chipotle certainly is obvious in the flavours! Especially in the long, moderate bitter aftertaste, the burning chilli makes this a beer you don’t hurl down, this is definitely a sipper. The initial taste is moderate sweet, and this soothes the palate for a while, until the next wave of chilli attack. Other flavours include roasted notes, coffee and liquorice, and more pronounced notes of chocolate and tobacco that I found in the flavours. I also get vague hints of leather. The mouthfeel (and throat feel!) is very rough due to the chilli, and in the beginning it was actually a bit unpleasant. Further down in the glass I’m slowly getting used to the roughness. The body is full, the texture is very oily and slick, the carbonation is soft. A wonderful and intense beer, although it’s a bit demanding. The most demanding part is of course all the googling that’s involved: how to pronounce "chipotle"?

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 umich03jm (986) - Allen Park, Michigan, USA - JUN 10, 2013
750 ml bottle. Pours black with a medium sized foamy head that fades normally and leaves nice webbing. Grabs the glass very well. Aroma is roasty with some light smoke, chipotle peppers, cocoa, and a light lactose sweet scent. Taste is very nice. Light sweetness mixes very nicely with the roast, smoke and cocoa. Awesome chipotle smokey, spicy finish. Just the right amount of spicy burn. So smooth in the finish too. Thin to medium body with a silky, oily mouthfeel. Overall, really great flavors here. The lighter body makes this so easy and smooth to drink. Really starting to love beers with chipotle peppers in them.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Davros (1515) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUN 10, 2013
Pours pitch black with a dark tan head.
Nose shows chocolate, coffee, soft roasted malt and liquorice. Very decadent!
Very rich flavours too. Heavy roasted malt with some coffee notes. Not much chipotle flavour but there is a soft burn on the palate. Finish is very roasty.
Rich, syrupy, creamy mouthfeel. Nice.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 kidmartinek (2560) - austin, Texas, USA - JUN 8, 2013
I live in Texas but the only place I could find this Danish-brewed beer was in Kuala Lumpur. It pours chalky brown with a 2 inch tan head just right. The nose is malty cocoa and chilli. The flavor is spicy chilli malt just right. This beer lets you know you have balls enough to drink it but doesn’t kick you in them. Nobody does a chilli beer better than this. Nuff said.
