3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle as Chipotle Porter. Nearly black, brown head. Aroma of smoke. Peppers really overwhelm the beer, to the point that you need antacids. The BA version is much better.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasting at Papsø, 7.7% ABV
Black color; brown head, nice lace. Aroma of roasted malt, paper, alcohol, chocolate, light smoke. Roasted malt flavor, strong, sandy; later the chilli kicks in; the smoke is subdued; the combination chilli-roasted malt is quite good but not what I expect in a beer; the smoke touch is present but light as well. A quite good beer, but the chipotle doesn’t add anything better.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2011 On tap at KØ-10. It looks lovely in the glass, with it’s black body and brown head. The aroma and flavor is just as gorgeous, and I’m really looking forward to have it again. The aroma has roasted malts, alcohol, licorice, lots of roasted malts and a nice chili touch. The chili leaves a pleasant warmth in the flavor, with coffee and roasted malts as a base, some licorice coming through too. Full-bodied and chili-warming, with chili and roasted malts in the finish. Chili the most evident of those. Ummmm. Rating: 9-5-9-4-17-4.4. 100506
Bottle, 75cl. A black one, looking unclear, and topped by a medium sized tan head. Smoked nose with coffee, chocolate, chipotle chili, some sweetness and a touch of peanuts. Rather toasted, smoked flavor with chili, choclate, coffee and a malty sweet backbone. Full-bodied, warming and hot, finishing with roasted malts, coffee and chili. A balanced beer with lots of delicious flavors. Even though I downrated it a bit, it’s still a gorgeous beer, one I need to revisit. 101015

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12/11/9/9/6/10

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at the Craft Beer Co - 14/09/12.
Pitch black with a thin coffee head which soon thin and good lacing ensued.
Nose is sweet malt, chocolate, and a little woody smokiness.
Tastes of charred wood, sweet chocolate, burnt tones, chilli and a little medicinal at the end, almost whisky like.
Medium bodied, but fairly chewy, moderate carbonation, smoky finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled 330ml (Drink Shop, BB ?? 10)
Dark opaque brown color, good creamy brown head. Coffeish chocolaty aroma, roasted with herbal notes. A bit milky too. Not so pleasant. Maybe because of chili? Medium-bodied. Coffee, burnt-roasted maltyness. Some tar/smoke and milky sweetness. Gimmick here is nice chipotle burn in the aftertaste. Otherwise this is not the best of Mikkeller Impys but chili works here very well.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The pour is viscous and black with a big mocha colored head that has great staying power.
S: A very subtle chili spice that lies underneath a nice smokey and roasty nose. There is a bit of a woody note too, along with a bit of earth and salt.
T: The chipotles give this beer a real interesting flavor. Smoke, spice, salt, and earth all come to mind immediately. The beer is quite rich and chocolatey with lots of roasted character as well.
M: I was surprised when I checked the label to see this beer is only 6.6% because the mouthfeel is very impressive. Very full bodied with a nice creamy carbonation.
D: This is (surprisingly) one of the best Mikkeller beers that I’ve come across. A really nice porter with a well done chili addition.
