I really enjoyed this beer, and I like spicy food and drinks, but I cannot imagine drinking an entire bottle of this myself. The peppers begin to stick in your throat. Otherwise I would have a higher rating.

Bottle. Pours in black body with really high brown creamy head, wonderful. Aroma has coffee notes, light smoky. Taste has high toffee sweetness, cold coffee after taste, smokiness all over the palate. The lacing is just amazing. I’m not sure if the roastiness comes from the chipotles or the malt, but is just really balanced. The after taste finishes with full toffee, caramel. I don’t get any chilli sensation from it, just a really good and balanced stout. Body is full, high carbonation.

Bottle, 0.33l, shared with Hoppiness crew. Murky dark brown color with medium creamy light brown head and nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, dried fruits with some peppery hints. Taste starts with moderate sweet and rich roasted malt, follows by chocolate note and fruity acidity. When beer gets warmer chipotle chili peppers break loose and create warming and tingling spicy mouthfeel, while spiciness is still present in medium bitter aftertaste. Full body, syrupy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Above excellent...

Pours an opaque black with a brow hat that leaves spotty lacing up the glass. Aroma of chipotle peppers, cocoa powder, dark chocolate & roasted malts. Taste is dark malts, coffee up front that turns into coffee bitterness on the end & then a burning/warming from the chipotle peppers. Very smooth and great blend for the high amount of chipotle pepper in this beer.

Appearance: deep near-black with a huge, rocky, creamy dark tan head that very slowly shrank to a thick cap and collar, with generous lace rings. Aroma: strong notes of chocolate, a whiff of coffee, growing notes of pine as it warms, and some black pepper. Taste: dark bitter chocolate, followed by roasty (almost burnt) coffee and pine, with black pepper spice. Finish: slowly rising (but low-burning) chipotle heat, with a chalky-dry mouth. Notes: Awesome. I’ve tried a handful of beers made with peppers (chipotles, acho chilis, etc) and this is by far the best and most nuanced. It’s really just a great porter with some nice chipotle notes that add depth, spice, and adventure without overpowering or dominating the backbone of the beer. Incredible palate as well: smooth and creamy, almost like liquid velvet, which really lets the flavors shine and the peppers sparkle. Bottled as Chipotle Porter, bottle from the Perfect Pour in Columbia, Maryland.

Draft at CASK Pub & Kitchen, London on 5th January 2011. Thick brown with pale brown fine foam ring and slight lacing. Intensely rich woody/peppery aroma and tangy fruits, spiciness and smoke in main flavour profile. Intense and penetrative. Rich smoky finish of bonfire/woodsmoke. Absolutely exquisite.

Pours totally black with a dark brown head. Aroma is malt, roastiness, smokiness, soy, coffee and chili. Taste is light sweet, quite roasty leading to a roasty and spicy finish. Interesting and awesome.
