Bottle. Dark body, medium tan head. Sweet and roasty aroma with some coffee. Big sweet and roasty taste. Finish reveals the chili heat. Not sure if I like chili in beers or not. If you want your beer to taste hot, why not just crank up the ABV? The stout base is good, however.

Bottle shared by ttroha. Pours a deep dark opaque black with a layer of toffee head. Aroma of booze and coffee. Taste of roasted malts and booziness.

A-opaque cola brown with thin cocoa brown head. Minimal lacing. A-coffee and toasted malts overwhelm the nose. Some pepper, salt, smoke and chalk carry to the end. M-mild carbs with slightly watery feel for a porter. T-espresso, smoke, chalk and grains start the taste. Lingering, potent pepper takes over and has a motivated spicy finish. Pepper pretty much takes over the taste after initial contact, with earthy, vegetable notes clawing from underneath. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2014 This is the most viscous looking beer I’ve had in a very long time: the pitch black liquid barely drips out the bottle! A large, creamy and very dense head with a scary dark brown colour forms easily and stays big for a long time before settling as a thick layer. Lots of foam is still clinging to the glass after the Texas Ranger is gone. The aroma is very strong and not surprisingly on the malty side. It’s heavily roasted with dark caramel, coffee and liquorice, some fainter chocolate and in the back I get traces of fruits and berries and even some juicy tobacco. Delicious! I can’t say I pick up any chilli in the aroma, but the chipotle certainly is obvious in the flavours! Especially in the long, moderate bitter aftertaste, the burning chilli makes this a beer you don’t hurl down, this is definitely a sipper. The initial taste is moderate sweet, and this soothes the palate for a while, until the next wave of chilli attacks. Other flavours include roasted notes, coffee and liquorice, and more pronounced notes of chocolate and tobacco that I found in the flavours. I also get vague hints of leather. The mouthfeel (and throat feel!) is very rough due to the chilli, and in the beginning it was actually a bit unpleasant. Further down in the glass I’m slowly getting used to the roughness. The body is full, the texture is very oily and slick, the carbonation is soft. A wonderful and intense beer, although it’s a bit demanding. The most demanding part is of course all the googling that’s involved: how to pronounce "chipotle"?

Poured from bottle Very nice nose -- almost a mole-like aroma. Dark, dark, dark, with an espresso head. Flavor is dry and complex -- there’s a lot of roasty notes, chocolate, a touch of licorice. The peppers really kick in on the finish; I feel them in my throat more than taste them. Very nice beer.

dense stable moccha head leaves foamhead structured lacing. coffee coloured. aroma is chocolate, cacaonibs, leather, bit vegetal. taste like aroma, starts slight sweet followed by spicy peppery burn that lasts long and builds up, not for the faint. pourse quite dense like motoroil, thick mouthfeel, medium carbonation. bottle 33cl / bbf oct-2018

330ml bottle from LCBO. pours a jet black colour. Rich mocha/toffee aroma showing a hint of paprika spice. On the palate it drinks like a stout but has a certain chilli powdery spice and flavour profile. Sports a decent length and quite a good range of flavours this is a very interesting brew. Would love to try the barrel aged versions!
