UPDATED: FEB 5, 2013 Bottle, sample. Black with a porous light brown head. Aroma: coffee, chocolate, quite dry. Taste: chocolate, really hot chili, licorice, coffee, a bit creamy, spicy finish. I’m a big fan of spicy food, but for me this isn’t completely successful. Still a pretty nice one though. 8/4/7/4/15
Bottle. Third time I’ve had this now, and each time is better than the last. Black with a creamy brown head. Aroma: roasted, coffee, licorice, cocoa, light chili. Taste: fruity and hot chili, licorice, coffee, cocoa, light creamy, finish has a nice burn.

Draught at work. ( I never get tired of saying that). Poured into one of our sampler tulips. Pours medium deep brown, with a black core, thin dark tan head, spotty lacing - surprisingly poor lacing for a draught sample. Nose is big chipotle, very dry and spicy pepper notes with light smoke, sweet toffee/fudge, marshmallows, hickory, and cocoa powder. Flavours of spicy coffee, very woody, like hickory or maple smoke, plus lots of smoke, fudge, and plenty of earth. Not the equal of the Speyside Edition, but then what is?

Pours pitch black with brown medium head. Aroma of coffee, spices, liquorice and burned grass. Taste of chocolate, espresso, wood, chili, pepper and smoke. Could be a little more chili in it to get more flavour than just a dry bitterness.

75cl bottle, home. Good classic mocha lacing; opaque black colour, aroma is grains, leather, chocolate, chilli peppers, bourbon, Devonshire cream and some nice measured hops. Taste is just divine. chocolate, bourbon, smoke, excellent bitterness, espresso coffee, roasted malts, leather, gorgeous dollops of cream, maybe some very faint vanilla, some uey treacle pudding which just oozes class, toffee and chillies. There is a lovely burn to your mouth when you finish this. I love the chillies in this, such a great touch!

Bottle from Proof. Black pour with a sudsy brown head. Deep chocolate aroma, roasted malts, smoke and peppers in the aroma. Thick chewy, dry chocolate malt up front, roast, light soy with smoke and chili peppers to round out the finish. Nice balance and tasty.

Bottle - pours black, opaque with a small dark cap - rich roasty-cocoa tones in the nose with a hint of spice and smokiness- flavour is a rich thick blend of roasty dark malts with bright hopping enhanced by a piquant sharpness - rich roasty finish with a spicy smoky end to it. I think the smoky chipotle ads to the porter and the use of thi spice was judicious and accurate to make it a great accompaniment to the palate. Top flight flavored porter

Pours thick black with a dense dark brown head - looks awesome. Aroma of chipotle that you can smell as soon as you open the bottle. Thick body, flavor of coffee and chocolate. The peppers come through throughout and have a nice bite to them. Well done.
