3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Smoke, tar, smoked meat, rich as hell.
Appearance: Black as can be medium beige head, lacing.
Flavour: Same as in the nose with a warming and peppery finish. First beer I’ve tried that has chili in it, and it makes it’s prescence known.
Total: I liked it a lot.

330ml bottle. pours a slightly murky brown with a thin tanned head. aroma is a little odd. slightly nutty, sweet and bready. but the taste does as described. chipotle chilli is hidden well at first but comes through after a minute or two. not overpowering and just a little spice. nice.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Barrell aged chipoltle porter bottle.Poured to a lager pub glass.Initial 3 finger cinnamon tan head, lots of lacing.
Fantastic aroma, mainly a malt milk chocolate, a little carmel and sweetness, somewhat fresh bready. You can kinda detect some heat.Vanilla bourbon oak tones.Great aroma!
Taste is smooth medium sweet, creamy chocolate with a light but smooth kind of roastyness fairly bready with the creamyness and some dark cherry kind of edge to it, there is a nice bitterness in the finish balanced and smooth as well. Some earthy oaky dryness comes out as it warms giving it a mild woody chocolate dryness. The chiplotle heat comes out a bit in the finish but i probably wouldnt know it had i not known chipoltle was in it.But you can start to notice it in the finish as it warms.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Excellent, dark pour for the style with a nearly black body and a full, dense, creamy, dark tan head which is very nearly fully lasting and leaves thick, frothy lace rings. The nose is smoky like the chipotle pepper (almost rauch-like), dark breads, burnt caramels, bakers’ chocolate, light chocolate malt (malt as in malt flavoring, not grain), faint chocolate cake, and a roasted coffee bean note in there as well. The flavor is different with less smoke and more roasted presence; similar chocolate malt notes, chocolate cake and Hershey’s chocolate syrup, light tones of smoky French roast coffee beans, and burnt caramels. The palate is medium to full, very dry but still round and silky, and soft to lively. The finish is very long, especially for a 6.6% beer with rich notes of burnt caramel and dark chocolate, dry restrained roast almost with a cedar-like quality, and ultimately the spiciness of the chipotles leaving a mild burn on the tongue, like a good chile or salsa. Very intriguing beer with all the notes of the pepper (smokiness in the nose, heat in the finish) but never even being more than a complementary note in the beer. Odd how you really got the smoky notes in the nose, not much in the beginning of flavor progression but all the heat on the tongue as the porter notes disappear. The pepper notes worked very well with the base beer adding a unique complexity instead of clashing or contrasting. Very likable beer, even for people who are not big chipotle pepper fans. Mikkeller does amazing work.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep dark chocolate liquer aromas. Pours black in the glass. Nice lacing from the caramel colored head. Flavor profile of sweet dark cocoa, dried fruits, espresso and a slight peppery aftertaste. A few seconds after swallowing, i can detect the spicy notes from the chipotle. Overall, this is a very tasty brew. Glad I have access to more...

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ Pingvinen, Bergen. Pours an almost perfect black, with a fingerthick creamy and coloured head. Like a proper stout should. And, …what? Not a stout? But the aroma is nice burned malts, with coffee, chocolate and toffee notes. The body is nicely creamy, with a soft carbonation. And the flavour is sweet with burned malts, coffee, chocolate and… Hmmm, black pepper. And chili. Yes, lots of chili, and it’s getting hotter and hotter throughout the finish. Someone might argue that it’s a bit over the top with all this perppery chili? Well maybe not your average stout, but it sure kicks hard and strong for a 6,6 ABV. Nice one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours balck with a brown head. Hops and dark malts in aroma. Notes of dark chocolate. Taste is hoppy at first, then malty (coffee and chocolate). The aftertaste is quite spectacular with notes of smoke, bitter dark chocolate and some chili. Got this courtesy of a friend who did not care for it at all.
