3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a rich deep umber color with a two finger khaki foam. The nose is roasty dark malts, light smokey chocolate and a touch of cinnamon spice. The palate follows the nose with rich roast chocolate that has an earthy mlight warming spice thats lowly heats up into a smokey peppery finish. Nice sipper that is best shared with a group but still highly drinkable and worth trying.

Bottle. Pours balck with a brown head. Hops and dark malts in aroma. Notes of dark chocolate. Taste is hoppy at first, then malty (coffee and chocolate). The aftertaste is quite spectacular with notes of smoke, bitter dark chocolate and some chili. The chili is quite balanced and actually a "natural" part of the brew. One of the best chili brews iv’e had even if its a little too much of everything for being really drinkable.

Had this at BCTC after the fest, back at the campsite. Pours a hazed brown with a medium sized beige to tan head. Very faint peppers, soft smoke. Chocolate, toast and roast. Subtle chocolate and pepper. Not much heat. Nice.

20110224750ml bottle from State Line. Near black with lasting, tight, brown head. Aroma is weirdly vinyl and burning clutch with some airplane glue and floral orange rind. WTF? But on the palate it explodes with incredible and very enjoyable flavor, completely unexpected, completely welcome. Right off the bat it’s mildly smoky, a bit acidic with its roast, and lightly peppery, but within a few minutes the chipotle really comes to the fore with a great, "fresh", obvious chipotle influence. I mean, there would be no guessing what the adjunct was if you were given this blind. Solidly done and very enjoyable.

Tasting at Paul’s place. The aroma is chocolate, roasty, coffee, spicy. The appearance is a red/brown, opaque, small light brown head. The flavor is smoky, spicy, chocolate, roasty. The finish is fiery chipotle (this is where the chipotle finally shows up.) Good.
