Black beer with a brown head. Oily cocoa aroma, tar, licorice, sweetish viol, smoky notes, spicy, peppery. Roasted soot flavor, really bitter and spicy. Bitter dry spicy finish.

20110224750ml bottle from State Line. Near black with lasting, tight, brown head. Aroma is weirdly vinyl and burning clutch with some airplane glue and floral orange rind. WTF? But on the palate it explodes with incredible and very enjoyable flavor, completely unexpected, completely welcome. Right off the bat it’s mildly smoky, a bit acidic with its roast, and lightly peppery, but within a few minutes the chipotle really comes to the fore with a great, "fresh", obvious chipotle influence. I mean, there would be no guessing what the adjunct was if you were given this blind. Solidly done and very enjoyable.

Tasting at Paul’s place. The aroma is chocolate, roasty, coffee, spicy. The appearance is a red/brown, opaque, small light brown head. The flavor is smoky, spicy, chocolate, roasty. The finish is fiery chipotle (this is where the chipotle finally shows up.) Good.

Bottle. Very dark black and a darker tan head. Roasty and earthy, bit of chocolate in the aroma. Chocolate is the clear flavor at first, bit of heat from the chilis at the back of the palate/throat. Pasture-like earthy flavor as well. Thicker body and warming. OK, but not amazing.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours damn near black with a dense tan head. The nose is peaty with notes of antiseptic, smoke, and peppers. The flavor starts on the peaty and antiseptic side, but quickly moves to dark chocolate, smoke, and chipotles. There is a nice warming sensation on the tongue, but it’s not overly spicy. Rich in body with lower carbonation leading to a medium to long roasty and spicy finish. Definitely a different brew and well made at that. I’m glad I had it, but I see it more as a novelty.

Bottle generously shared at the RBSG grand tasting. Labeled as Chipotle Porter. Pours a dark chocolate brown. Aroma is musty with notes of dark chocolate. Flavor is unsweetened cocoa with some chalk. Roasted malt in the finish. Fairly good, but I got no pepper whatsoever.

Pours black with a large brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, smoke, coffee and chilli. Flavour is roasted malt, malt acidic, alcohol, cold coffee and chilli. I don’t like the chilli in this beer, it is a bit overpowering.

Black with a big and lasting light brown head. Aroma of malt, licorice, smoke and chili. Sweet and roasted flavour with a hot spicy finish. A bit too much for me.

pitch dark, smooth brown head. nice roasted aroma, brown sugar, spicy chilli tinge. flavor is mild roasted stuff, as a base for some pretty heavy chili. sort of a chili porter. The chili is good.

From tap@Řrsted Řlbar & Cafč. Grey-shaded blond head. Body is black with brown edges. Hard roasted malts, coffee notes and earthy hops in the aroma. A pleasant spice scent too. No chili detected in the first sip. After a few minutes the chili invade the palate. Quite hot, yet balanced and enjoyable. A medium strong, slight sweet malt body is there to back up, along with notes of coffe, fruits and bitterness from the malts and the hops added. Everlasting chili finish.
