Bottle. Poured a black color with a thick, dense, creamy tan head that slowly receded to a thick fluffy layer while leaving large spots of lacing. Aroma of bakers chocolate, lightly roasted malt, bread (rye?), a soft earthiness, and some dry pepper. Smooth, lightly bitter entry that leads into a moderate roasted maltiness with some hints of light bakers chocolate that leads into a lightly dry earthiness paired with a moderate chalkiness that is overtaken by lightly spicy pepper note that lingers into the finish and becomes a tad overbearing before a light, sweet breadiness peaks through and tries to salvage some of the flavor. Light carbonation and relatively slick mouth feel. Overall, the appearance and aroma are pretty promising, but the lingering, harsh flavor leaves a pretty fair amount to be desired. I am not sure if it’s the peppers that are imparting the chalking, almost medicinal flavors or not, but I am not a fan of that. Bummer.

Bottle from Dicey Reilly’s, Ballyshannon [100414]
Pitch black, big dirty tan frothy head, good lacing
Aroma of smoked chilli, roasted malts, rich dark malts, savoury malts, complex aroma
Taste of rich dark malts, smoked chilli, dark chocolate, bit of soy, slight fruity hop underneath all those dark malts, chilli is hot but not too much
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, chewy rich texture, very smooth, sweet dark malts, hot chilli. Finish - nice lingering chilli heat, quite dry.
Overall - Really good chilli stout, and the chilli heat is integrated here rather than disjointed.

Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Almost totally black color. Thin ring of light brown head. Leaves good, thicker ropes and splotches of lace. Nice classic porter flavors.. Some dark roast, light bit of earthy hop, dark chocolate. Hint of coffee. Towards the back, a very nice chipotle pepper kick that isn’t over bearing. Less of a kick, more a playful shove. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, with that lightly spicy pepper kick. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of chewy texture. Lighter carbonation. Kind of slick. Well done chipotle porter.

Draft at Ei8ht Ball. Prune and chocolate malt aroma. Black with small head. Sweet prune, tobacco, and chocolate malt flavor. Chili pepper burn in the finish. Nicely balanced with heat apparent but controlled. A pleasure to drink.

How: Bottle.
Where: NK Bar, Stockholm.
Appearance: Dark brown colour with a small brown head.
Aroma: Chocolate, chilli, spices.
Body: Medium body and carbonation.
Flavour: Chocolate, liquorices. Chipotle and chilli in the finish. Could have used a bit more prominent chipotle flavour to make it stand out more.

Backlog. Not a fan of the spice beers and even less of a fan for chili-infused ales. Probably not Mikkels fault.

Visual: Plain classy label, Mikkeller style. Pours ultra dark brown, smallish creamy head, decent ringed retention, sticky lacing, some minute streams along the perimeter. Nose: deep, dark caramel malty sweetness, mild oyster fishiness (7/10-pungency) Attack: incoming crisp sweet-sourness Mid-palate: syrupy mouthfeel, (6/10)-bittersweetness, medium sour-brightness, (MAIN) smoked malts, burntness, caramel, coffee Finish: smoked chipotle spicy kick, malty bittersweet-lingering medium spicy finish.

330ml bottle shared with jeevan. Pours dark brown, near black, thin tan head. Aromas of green pepper, roast coffee and chocolate. Taste brings heat, bit too much chilli for me. Prefer this barreled to soften it out.
