In this version HvedeGoop has been barrel aged in Malaga wine barrels. Malaga wine is a variant of Sherry, which you clearly can sense in this very complex beer. Rare and delicious.

Pours dark amber color with a small head. Vinous notes on the nose, sweet malts, caramel, some wood, faint honey notes too. Sweet malts and ripe fruits on the flavor, wood, faint wheat, toffee and slight alcohol burn. A bit sweet, hides alcohol well. Decent.

Sweet caramel and wine. Lingering sweet flavor almost like jam. Not overly acidic and well balanced, but a lingering boozy aftertaste

Bottled. Pours amber with a little, lacing off-white head. Aroma with notes of berrie and fruit, caramel, wood and sherry. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry with bitter notes. Medium to full bodied, oily to syrupy texture and soft carbonation. An excellent Barley.

12.7oz bottle, shared by b3shine. Mostly clear dark red color. Good thin khaki head, leaves nice thicker lace. Medium to bigger body. Soft, smooth light to moderate carbonation. Lightly slick body, with a light drying finish. Dark fruity, some sherry, barrel, lightly spicy. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, light alcohol warmth. Lots of red fruit character to this. Interesting barley wine, but not really my style. A little overly dry towards the end. Solid, complex stuff though

375 ml bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a hazy amber brown color witha medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have herbal, citrus hops over a caramel malt base. The wood and Malaga notes come through. A touch of the abv shows. I enjoy the hop/malt mix with the barrel notes.

375 ml bottle to snifter (shared with the group; thanks DuffMan). Best by 06/12/17. Looks good; a fairly transparent amberish caramel with foamy light beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells fairly sweet and malty with notes of oak and sherry. Tastes like it smells with a pleasantly vinous mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

375 mL bottle from Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, served in a stem glass. Pours clear reddish caramel with a large, dense tan head that mostly remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has big notes of caramel, molasses, oak and sherry, along with raisins, dark fruit, some pine and hints of orange peel and anise. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout with loads of caramel, toasted malts, candy sugar, oak and raisins. Notes of pine enter in the middle and provide balance. The finish is long and balanced with pine, caramel and sherry. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, milky texture and average carbonation. Overall this is a very nice barley wine, with complex medium roasted malts, dark fruity notes and just the right amount of hops for balance. The Malaga barrel provides a nice sweetness and enhances the already impressive complexity. 2014-03-11
