This finished off the night for me with the STL tasting on 4/18/08. Thanks again to the group for sharing this one. Pours very dark with a good sized tan head. The aroma has ginger / pepper spice, orange peel. There is roasty chocolaty malt, but it takes second place to the spiciness. Medium body that has minor moderate carbonation. The flavor begins with white pepper, chalk, roasted malt, milkiness and some orange. The finis has more roast and a bit of soy sauce. An okay porter.

Bottled. Hazy brown, short head. Aroma of caramel, spicy, roasted malt, hint of chocolat. Bit dry bitter taste, very spicy, some laurel?

750ml from From the Vine, Columbus. I’ve been waiting a while to crack this beer, one of many Mikkelers that we for some reason don’t get in my part of NC. At any rate, a very handsome dark pour with some lively carbonation and a pleasant glow to it. In both the nose and the taste, it’s yeasty in the best way possible (something I often dislike in porters, but which works just fine here). It’s nicely malted, which suits the big chewy body. But it’s also lightly and interestingly spiced, with hints of nutmeg. There’s a somewhat dusty and dry finish. It all makes for a rockin’ good beer.

Bottle @ DTS. Spicy aroma with licorice, nutmeg and chocolate. Spicy flavor with nutmeg. Sweetish, malty with coffee, licorice and laurel. Too spicy to be really enjoyable.

Dutch tasting session Bunnik. Bottled. Opaque, big brown head. Fruity nose, malts. Initially sour flavour, which develops to be more bitter in the end. Overly spiced. Not my kind of beer.

Bottle@DTS. Nutmeg and jasmin aroma. Dark brown color, brown head, good lace. Malty, roasted, ash in the finish, laurel, nutmeg. Not exceptional, a bit too spicy for me.
