Semi hazy, apricot color pour. Medium off-white head. Fruity aroma with red currant, goose berries and nettles, plus a suttle tone of chopped wood. I really like the smell. The taste is not really what I expected, based on the aroma. The brettanomyces yeast together with the american hops makes it quite interesting, even though the self proclaimed "mix between a Belgian Orval and an American IPA" is a bit misleading. It´s closer to an IPA than an Belgian Ale. I sense some citrus flavours together with net melon and honey. Palate is a bit dry and the sweet fruitiness is short lived. I get a lot of fresh american hops in both aroma and taste which I really enjoy, and it has a rather long bitter finish.

@1stBP, Bottle: Small 3 mm beige foamy lacing. Hazy amber brown color. Smell a lot of bitter, hops, hints of syrup, grapefruit, yeast, raisin. Taste is a good mix of raisin, vanilla, smoke, hints of yeast. Taste turns into bitter into light bitter into less bitter more sweet coffee taste.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden copper color with a one finger white head that recedes into a thin layer on top leaving thick lacing. Smell has strong piney hops in the forefront with hints of caramel, citrus, and sweet candy. Big piney hop flavor, along with citrus hops, caramel, white pepper, spices, and a touch of candi sugar. A nice funkiness comes through as the beer warms. Medium body, very creamy with soft carbonation.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours turbid dull ruddy muddy brown with 2f off white head. Nose is huge piney hops, caramel malt, yeasty spice esters, pineapple, tangerine. Tastes rich, hoppy, with big spice, piney hops, caramel malt, very complex, very piney. Gets a tad dry late, but remains extremely delicious throughout.

In short: A very funky (bretty) and leathery golden ale hopped like an American IPA. Kick-ass.
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed about one year after the beer was bottled. Sent to me by Savy1982, thanks a lot Kyle
The look: Partly cloudy golden body topped by large off-white head
In long: Nose is a blend of brett funk, a bouquet of flowers and citrusy hops. Taste expands on the nose. Moderately funky, a good brett presence but not to the point of dominating the beer. A lot of floral, piney and fruity hops that are overall a bit resinous. Also a lot of grapefruits. A lot leather, I have rarely experience so much leather in a beer. Sharp finish that is both bitter and tart. This thing is hopped like an American IPA. I’ve had many so-called bretty IPA in the past few years. Most were interesting but none really succeeded at blending these two elements I like so much. Now this one comes out of nowhere does it perfectly and it is not even described as a bretty IPA. I’d go as far as to say that there is a little Orval going on here. And since Orval is objectively the best beer in the world then this is also a great beer. I got this as a “filler” in a trade that was centered around other bottles. I had no expectations. This was as unexpected as a Motorhead song dedicated to those who love tranquility and harmony.

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Split with James. Pours a ruby amber with a thick, rich, two-finger beige head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, malts, grapefruit, and tons of bitter hops. Medium bodied with a loose, slightly tart palate. Easy, quick finish. Decent Belgian strong. I expected much more from Mikkeller, especially with the label advertising the "wild yeast." Expected a sour.

Bottled sample via Savvy1982, consumed with oakbluff. Oarnge in colour with medium carbonation. Very soapy aroma, with backing notes of white grapefruit, flowers, and a touch of grass. More of that soap and grass combo in the mouth, along with VERY dry pale malts and leather. Drying and light bodied on the palate. Good stuff.
