What better way to celebrate todays Dem victory than drinking a fantastic ’Merkin beer! Yes I know its Danish but I needed an excuse to drink this beer as it is frightfully $$$ in NZ. The brett is not as pronounced in this beer as the Rayon V, but in this case the subtlety adds to the beers flavour profile.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
3/6/2014, Mikkeller Tasting Night @ The Brownstone, 4th and final round: shared 750 ml bottle. Mostly clear lighter copper, lasting off-white foam. Brett funk, floral hop aroma. Hybrid taste of floral citric herbal PNW hops mixed with a bretty funkiness, bitter and yeasty, low malt profile. Average carbonation, medium body, more aggressively hopped. Citrus increases as it warms. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys) Paired with a creamy chicken pot pie filling and baking powder biscuit.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
1/17/14. On tap at Proof. Amber pour with a small khaki head. Funky aroma, plenty of brett and wildies in there, floral, fruity, a hint of a metallic aspect. Sweeter and maltier flavor than I was expecting, caramel, fruitiness, Brett, touches of yeast spiciness. Not bad.

2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle 75cl. Red/orange with a big beige head. A bit sour nose from the wild yeast. Medium rich, not impressive at first. The hop is not as present as I expected. Tne wild yeast is too dominant. Not my style.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy tea-bronze with an oatmeal head. Vaporous, fresh, sweet, fruity, amber malt aroma with light chemical tones and citrus peel. Not as edgy as it smels. Woody, APA bitter. Medium-heavy body. Woody bitter finish and tangy. OK to slightly pretty good. On tap, Proof.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tallahassee, Fl - Proof Brewing Company - on tap. Dark orange pour, medium thick off-white head, nice lacing. Aroma is that of sweet kid’s cereal with some floral accents. Flavor has some apricot-like fruitiness, some overripe fruit, some weird funkiness. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Not a highlight of the evening.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
My bottle is called Alive not "USAlive" Big malty nose with a good hint of brett. Mahogany with a 3 finger white foamy head, falls down to half a finger. Big malts on the taste that open up to a hop bitterness. The brett pops in near the end for a brief moment. Finishes like a double ipa. I think the brett needs time to do something here. Good besides.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A bit of an odd blighter this one as by look it seems Belgian but by aroma and flavour was deeply American NW. Slightly hazy mellow orange colour with a fulsome cream coloured head, this was lively in the glass - courtesy of its yeasty origin. Aromas of stonefruit, faintly resinous, mainly herbal. Plenty of lively mouthfeel and great oily dabs of hoppy fruitiness, accompanied by elegant sweet white-peachy nectarine flavours. Sat on the palate for ages because of the gentle bitterness. Remarkable beer and an interesting crossover.
