Very interesting and very good. Having this version of Mikkeller’s It’s Alive now. This one’s aroma is milder, but the floral component is more pronounced in the flavor. Poured with nice off white head and good lace. Aroma is as above and with yeast malt hops and brett. Flavor’s similar with a little more acid than the euro version. Incrediblly full flavored. Excellent body and carbonation. Again complimented so well by the Brettanomyces. Clean finish and almost a session for sipping.

Bottle: Poured a medium orangey color ale with large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of Brett with light tartness and dry hoppy notes which are very well balanced. Taste is a complex mix between some Brett notes with some medium barnyard and light tart undertones with a great mix of floral and dry hops which are mix with a semi-sweet Belgian-style malt base. Body is slightly fuller then average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Very well brewed and while being different kind of remind me of the quality of Russian River beers.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Cole (889) - , Alberta, CANADA - NOV 4, 2009
Pours Clear brown with a tall thick creamy head.Great aroma very hoppy, fresh and floral with a hint of brett. The flavour is very complex. Strong hoppy flavour like an american IPA strong and flaral with a very welcome bitterness, and very citrus as well. you can really taste the Amarillo hops. The finish is a bit malty with the sourness of the brett coming through. There is a slight chocolate flavour mid palate and the whole flavour lingers and really stays with you. This is one of the Best Beers I have ever had. It is as if they have taken my 2 favorite styles, (American IPA, and Orval) and forced them together like an amazing beergasam that starts out soo strong and intenses, them amplifies, and finishes in the most interesting way. And then stays with you all night. All in all Awesome.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours turbid dull ruddy muddy brown with 2f off white head. Nose is huge piney hops, caramel malt, yeasty spice esters, pineapple, tangerine. Tastes rich, hoppy, with big spice, piney hops, caramel malt, very complex, very piney. Gets a tad dry late, but remains extremely delicious throughout.

In short: A very funky (bretty) and leathery golden ale hopped like an American IPA. Kick-ass.
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed about one year after the beer was bottled. Sent to me by Savy1982, thanks a lot Kyle
The look: Partly cloudy golden body topped by large off-white head
In long: Nose is a blend of brett funk, a bouquet of flowers and citrusy hops. Taste expands on the nose. Moderately funky, a good brett presence but not to the point of dominating the beer. A lot of floral, piney and fruity hops that are overall a bit resinous. Also a lot of grapefruits. A lot leather, I have rarely experience so much leather in a beer. Sharp finish that is both bitter and tart. This thing is hopped like an American IPA. I’ve had many so-called bretty IPA in the past few years. Most were interesting but none really succeeded at blending these two elements I like so much. Now this one comes out of nowhere does it perfectly and it is not even described as a bretty IPA. I’d go as far as to say that there is a little Orval going on here. And since Orval is objectively the best beer in the world then this is also a great beer. I got this as a “filler” in a trade that was centered around other bottles. I had no expectations. This was as unexpected as a Motorhead song dedicated to those who love tranquility and harmony.

Bottle. Look: Amber. Very nice creamy and thick white head. Smell: Hops. Extreme citrusy aroma. Some cookies. A lot more complex than your average IPA though. A bit more funky. Taste: Fruity and hoppy. Nice special dry funky bitterness in aftertaste. Orange, grapefruit. Overall: Simply one of the best beers ever. Refreshing and easy to drink, still very complex!
