330 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Looks: Clear amber brown colour with a ring of dirt like yeast sediments; One and a half finger head with crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Beautiful sticky lacing with active carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet Belgian-like dark malt, with fair roastyness, nuts, strong caramel, sticky toffee, plums, light perfume, alcohol, sugar, ginger, strong spices, strong Bel yeast, lemon and light grass.

Taste: Medium to light sweet dark malt, with light nuts, caramel, shades of alcohol, molasses, strong lemon peels, strong bitter hops and strong herbal grass.

Body: Medium body. Slick and smooth palate.

Mouth Feel: Solid dark maltyness in a very smooth, almost creamy background. Caramel base with omnipresent nice light booze with perfumey feel. Otherwise it’s strong hops with sharp lemon and very herbal grass to balance the moderate sweetness. Yum!

Hoppiness: Ginger, strong spices, lemon and light grass in nose. Strong lemon peels, strong herbs and grass in taste. Bitterness is very strong for a lasting, high astringent bitter sweet malty finish.

After taste: Fairly dry. Maltym herbal and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: This is more like a very hoppy Dubbel, with lasting heads, unmistakable Belgian dark malts and yeastiness, smooth palate, some lingering nice light booze and perfumey aroma and taste, all topped with strong lemony herbal hops. What a joy!

Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo under the name Udagawa Brown. Light peppery hops with some cacao nibs, caramel and grass. Average carbonation with a medium body. More caramel and cacao nibs on the palate with good hoppy bitterness on the finish. My kind of hoppy brown.
