Pours dark red with a firm, lasting off white head. The aroma is packed with fruity notes of red berries, citrusy hops and caramel, chocolate and orangepeel due to the weinbrand cask. On the palate this is one of the best balanced beers I’ve had this year. There is nothing that is overdosed vis a vis other taste components; a great example of many contributions playing together instead of just playing as loud as they can individually. Very creamy mouthfeel and a very classy beer.

Opaque dark red - brown beer, good pale tan head. Sumptuous smooth palate with mild fine carbonation. Creamy malt with a toffee streak. Dry wood tang leads to clear and present brandy, mellow but fully flavoured. Mild orange hops bring up the rear and add a little bitterness. Semi dry finish. Lovely! Eighteen months ago, this was an appley green mess but it has developed wonderfully.

Bottle, enjoyed 5,5 years after bottling. Pours clear dark brown, with a small creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, with red wine, tannins and oak barrels, as well as leather and dark berries. Medium body, with average carbonation. Flavour is sweet roasted malts, with bread and caramel, as well as wooden barrels, tannins, red wine and some raw notes of alcohol. Wood and berries in the finish.

Brunröd med stort ljusrött skum! Doft av dessertvin, russin och alkohol! Ungefär samma i smak! Lagrat på brandyfat! Bäst före 15/9-19

In short: A sweet woody purple ale of some kind. A rough sipper.
How: Bottle 375ml, consumed with some age on it but still more than 6 years before expiration date!
The look: Cloudy dark red topped by a persistent small beige head.
In long: Nose transpires sweet malts, strong girly scent (perfume-ish), strong barrel presence, dank notes. Taste is very sweet, toasted sugars, caramel, beets (!!!), red berries, notes of soap, a certain spiciness, sawdust sensation, fruity hops resin. Alcohol is apparent but not bothersome. Not a clean elegant beer that’s for sure, it is actually kind of “rough” imho, took me a while to work through my little 375ml. Feels like one of those gimmicky CCB wood and sugars orgy that throws a bunch of stuff at you. Really not my thing, although not unpleasant. Mikkeller is making too many new beers and they cannot keep the quality up with so many new offerings, in fact, statistically speaking by they it took you to read this rating Mikkeller has probably put out two or three new beers.

37.5 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy reddish amber with a lot of sediment and an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma is vinous, hops, oak, caramel, and vanilla. Flavour is much like the aroma with a dry finish.

375 ml bottle... vintage 2009. Pours deep amber brown with a one finger head. Nose is very alcoholic - brandy, kirsch and red wine... and lots of dust. Taste is typically Mikkeller after a year or two... still drinkable but depth is totally gone, all that is left is alcohol and dust. Mèh. Taste is a bit more subtle red wine & chocolate. Damn, Mikkeller does not age well!

Bottle in CPH. Thanks to some Swiss friends (I think!) for busting this out. The pour’s rusty red. Loads of sediment and dandruff in the pour. Thenose is knackered toffee, cherry, chocolate, acidic red apple. The taste is more cherry, spicy apple pie filling, husky grain. Cinnamon spice. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Overall, definitely past its best. Still OK though.
