4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
[Bottle, thanks Marsiblursi!] Pours dark brown with a dark brown head that is quite small. Aroma is coconut, notes of smoke, chocolate, raisin, and molasses. Very sweet taste up front, a lot of alcohol, really deeply roasted malt, and faint raisin again. Good mouthfeel with a very long finish. Really excellent use of barrel here, and although the heavily roasted malt usually is not my thing, it actually worked for this beer. Would love to see this one more widely available. Thanks again, Marsiblursi!

Black with no head - great aroma of bourbon and oak. The flavor is also full of oak with notes of whisky.

Flaske: Lækker duft af whisky og molasses på en kulsort øl med et meget lille skumhoved. God balance imellem lagringen alkoholen og den store mængde sukker i øllen. Virkelig en god øl.

Nip. Thanks, Thewolf and after4ever! Pours opaque black with a tan ring of foam. Sweet oaky chocolate aroma. Full body, minimal carbonation. Taste of coffee, chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. A bit of alcohol hotness on the finish.

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Starts very dry and strong-malty, modest sweet. Turns more and more dry, finish is woody-prickly, complex malty notes. A very good beer! Thanks to yespr for the bottle!

250ml bottle from a six pack of special beers from Amager and Mikkeller released at Ølbutikken, Cph early on Saturday 13th September 08. Pours an oily, noisy and bubbly beige-brownish head, quickly diminishing. Jet black body. Aroma of liquorice malts with some kind of peaty oak behind. Taste of chocolate fortified by sweet, dark berries and a dash of spices. Tart orange shells passing by in a lingering bitter ending. Warming and pleasant alcohol level. Full bodied (Easter joy at home in Tromsø, 09.04.2009).

Bottle at home ... from Ölbutikken six pack ... deep black ... big bubbly short lived brown head ... deep roast malt little whiskey little chocolate nose ... big foaming of the beer in the mouth ... solid deep roast ... a lot and maybe just a little too much whiskey ... little bitterness ... nice roast chocolate and coffee .. its the foaming that lets this down a bit.

Bottled 25cl (from Ölbutikken six pack, BBE 2012).
Pitch black color, tiny tan head. Big nose with whisky - peat, smoke, alcohol - and licorice. Full-bodied. First impression is cough syrup: sweet syrupy beer with loads of licorice and warming medicine ... err ... alcohol. Whisky impression, especially in the finish - probably Isley or Highland barrels. Aftertaste is sweet and has touch of espresso. Feels lighter than 13 %, does not has burning tick like eg. Dark Horizon 2nd ed. Very tasty, not super outstanding barrel brew like Kaggen (not so smooth or complex) but a great beer anyhow.

Bottled (bought from Olbutikken). Black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is licorice, some slight whiskynotes as well as big time chocolate and coffeeish notes. Flavour is chocolate, coffee, some mild licorice as well as some whiskynotes. Also some slight alcohol is noteable. Quite wellbalanced even though this strong. Quite rich carbonation, which even more makes this a sipper.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
25cl bottle from the Saturday opening of Olbutikken during the Copenhagen beer festival in September 2008. Buying 6 small bottles of beer for the equivalent to £42 may sound crazy to most UK beer drinkers, but the atmosphere at the beer shop was excellent and these beers are a little bit special. Black as night body with just a thin film of bubbles. Didn’t know which whisky this was aged in, but thankfully I don’t detect any TCP. A decent thick impy stout with good chewy choc and coffee flavours. Bit of Speyside/Highland whisky aroma, I’d go for Speyside as a guess, chewy dark malts and a dash of espresso oh and liquorice too. Liquorice edge runs all the way through it and gives it a bit of a sour edge. Does remind me of a sherbert fountain. Decent impy stout, the mouthfeel is a bit over carbonated, even after 20 mins in the glass which lets it down a bit. Finish has some pretty good dark malts and a bit of a whisky twang. Good flavours, some liquorice, interesting character.
