Bottle at home, rating 2200. Black with a huge, light brown head, disappearing though, and no lace. Aroma is chocolate, sweey licorice, bourbon and some American hops mixed up in all the rest. The alcohol is obvious in the nose.
The flavour is sweet, mostly brown sugar, chocolate and bourbon, and lots of alcohol. The complexity is there, but just a tad too sweet and alcoholic. The best of the "black as..."

Bottle @ Chris_o’s Pre-Beer Exposed Tasting, September 2008.
Pours completely black with a nice, creamy, brown-beige head. Aroma has lots of hops, roasted malts and rather vinious. Fine, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has bourbon, wood, roasted malts, and bordering on alcoholic. Good chocolate and fine coffee in the finish. Nice enough balanced, just a tad too harsh in alcohol.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sigmund (4162) - Tau, NORWAY - SEP 30, 2008
250 ml bottle, shared with Ole_R, thx! ABV was 13.0%. Imperial stout stored 5 months in a whisky barrel, simply called "Mikkeller Black As Night". Pitch black colour, brown head that does not last very long. Nice roasty aroma, notes of coffee, tar, oak and liquorice. Intense oaky, roasty and very sweet flavour, alcohol is noticeable but not as much as expected. Long and bitter aftertaste.

Bottle @ home. Black and opague. Roast, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak and malt whisky in the aroma. Salty, malty flavor with dark chocolate drenched in whisky. Even hints of peat and licorice. The malty sweetness is challenged by alcohol. A taste bomb with power and compelxity.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ekstedt (4540) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 21, 2008
Bottle (25 cl) from Ølbutikken. Black with medium brief brown head. Very complex roasted malt aroma, with chocolate and coffee, and dark fruits, and some faint notes of wood, whisky and alcohol. Medium bodied (surprisingly), soft carbonation. A bit sweet, although with some bitterness. Quite good.

Bottle, 13.0%. Sweet liquoricy aroma, hint of vanilla and plenty of pepper. Black colour, no head. Sweet liquorice flavour, plenty of alcohol. Good, but we have tried something like this before.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 JorisPPattyn (7298) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 21, 2008
Fluffy, fully-dark clouded head over night-black beer (original, original wording, JPP!) Ink, and very very dark berries and other plumlike fruit - dried and preserved in whisky or rum. Black chocolate if ever tasted, with an enormous load of alcohol, in a nice, whisky-like way with a strange, but perfectly balanced fresh vanilla-like sweetness. Near solid oil. And yet a great balance. A winner, if ever MIkkeller brewed one.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 faroeviking (10274) - FAROE ISLANDS - SEP 20, 2008
Bottled. Thanks a bunch big time for sharing Pinball. Colour: black as the darkest night with a bubbly rather short lasting light brown head. Aroma of very roasty malt, dark fruits, choolate, woodish whiskey, mild smoke and alcohol. Very good mouthfeel. Very pleasant flavour of roasted malt, wood, chocolate, some whiskey, bitter hops and bit of pepper. Great brew indeed.
