Bottle thanks to Douglas. A: OIly black, thin mocha head, and legs. N: Leather, cocoa, tobacco, smoke, biscuit, intense brown sugar, molasses, oxidation, oak, caramel, vanilla, plenty of earth, and some soy sauce. T: Very sweet and smokey. M: Heavy oily body, no alcohol, soft carbonation. O: This is very tasty - and it’s what I imagine people think Dark Lord tastes like. There’s just one thing that’s holding me back from a higher score, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2016 Bottle. 2013. Pours a cloudy brown with a tiny bubble of head. The aroma is massive sugary dark fruit. Amazing. Smoke, dark fruit essence, sugary hot but so drinkable. Massive smoky dark leather and tobacco. Amazing. The aroma is just so huge. Essence of dark fruit. Much like Expy, which is the best.

Taste is sweet, boozy, slight bitter and salty. Finish is sweet and quite with salty licorice candy, some salty soy notes, sweet dark sugars, caramel, raisins, some milk chocolate, hints of ash, cocoa, blackberries. Full bodied, soft carbonation, oily texture.
Sweet and salty.

I’ve been saving this 2013-bottle for some time. Black and velvet-like. Creamy texture, thick. Amazing aroma with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, sirup. Sweetness and bitterness working great in unison. Almost overwhelming complexity. Best sipped and shared. Might get cloying if enjoyed in larger quantites. One to remember and dream about tasting again.

Bottle shared: black as night pour, little head or lacing. Aroma is deep dark fruits, char, roast, coffee. Flavor is a touch aggressive - a little too much bitter and charred/burnt grain. It would be better without that as it is almost balanced with sweeter malt and chocolate and bitter coffee, but not quite.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2013 bottle. Originally reviewed 9/8/2014. Black body. No head. A few bubbles. Very leggy. Smells of fudge. Raisins. Deep roast. Booze. Very dynamic stout flavors. Chocolate. Molasses. Fudge. Moves into deep roast. Bitter coffee and some burnt malts. Medium low carbonation. Very heavy and sweet. I was surprised by how good this is. More than just an over-sweet monster of a stout

375ml bottle, ¿ Vintage, kindly shared by bursprak to the Aarhus Belgisk Blåmuslinger Tasting, 08/2015. - Finale to three big & bold postprandial closers to a nicely balanced tasting, this PoMo beer liqueur brings an elegant density of roast and black malt flavours into balance with the avantgarde of hop engineering: thick, destilled espresso and dark chocolate, orangeat, Grand Manier doused fondant over dried raisins, plums and DK-ubiquitous lakrids aka liquorice. Cognac-like alcohol never becomes sharply piercing, oozing prominently underneath the molasses. Hop bouquet subtleties stealthily flying under the dark surface: orange zest, berry, grape, citrus pith. Sticky, coating mouthfeel, without becoming sweet treacle. - Would be interesting to taste this parallel to some of De Struise’s more heavy hitters and compare the merits of clean engineering vs sugar-powered yeasts & eisbocking.
