3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle shared at columbus tasting 7 - Pours black with a short tan head that stays briefly. Aromas of big floral hops over chocolate and coffee. Flavor reveals much much more. Big chocolate, black licorice, coffee, smoke, lots of woody notes and some definite alcohol early on. Later the alcohol seemed much more covered though. Palate was oily, smooth and they did a pretty good job of covering up the alcohol in this monster.

big huge thanks to greg for obtaining this bottle. big thanks to Dak for inviting me to this highly insane tasting. This is the most perfect beer that i have ever had to date. I would gladly fly to the end of the earth for this beer again. poured an amazingly beautiful black with a copper head. aroma was dark fruits, chocolate, fudge, earth, and cinnamon. flavor was equally as impressive with fudge, earth, dark roast, dark fruit, and a spicy quality that really stood out and wowed me. body was insanely rich and smooth. I am seriously humbled by this beer and the chance to drink it. those tampa guys rock and really know how to show an out-of-towner a great tasting. oh yeah and this is rating 2000 baby!!!

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Courtesy of Papsoe. The body is deep black and holds a huge; two fingers thick, mocha head that is so thick and lasting it almost looks like it is brooding. The aroma is a alcohol, chocolate and cane sugar. It’s kind of muddy and a bit of a let down, but good enough to want to get to drinking it sooner rather than later. The fore is rich chocolate, massive burnt and roast bitterness, stewed dark fruits and a mélange of espresso blueberry liqueur and an oily coffee like acidity. This is a great Imperial Stout from the first sip, but that sip then attacks with a burst of very unusual flavors I have never in this combination…molasses, cane sugar, raisin liqueur, burnt rum and apples and raisins friend in rum. This beer tastes like what Avery Mephistopheles SHOULD have tasted like and the Mephistopheles was very good. The mouthfeel is thick and round. The last sip seemed to have grains of raw cane sugar in it. It was that thick and coarse. I can truly say no beer I have ever had tastes like this. It tastes like a great Imperial Stout with a great experimental Imperial Stout tacked on to it. This beer must be made again for the sake of beer geekdom.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught. Deep black with a soapy white/tan head. Wow, there’s a crazy amount of hops in the aroma - all C citrus and enormously resiny. No noticeable alcohol right from the start. Smells like an IIPA in a lot of ways and there is some noticeable roast chalkiness. Now in terms of the flavour I was a bit torn because it wasn’t really what I was expecting...it was immensely hoppy and sticky without a lot of the typical Imperial Stout characteristics that I’ve come to love. There’s even some sourish roast malt but it’s all dwarfed by the grapefruity resin. Lacking in balance and sweet and bitter in the finish. One thing remains though - the alcohol is well masked.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught @ CBC2013. Pours oily pitch black with a small creamy mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of creamy lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, caramel, burnt cookies, toffee, charred wood, minerals, butterscotch hard candy, sweetened dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, alcohol and hints of roasted nuts, dried dark fruits and smoke. Taste is very sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, sweetened dark roast coffee, burnt caramel, dried dark fruits, dark chocolate and alcohol. Mouthfeel is round, oily, boozy sticky sweet and full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, dried dark fruits, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, wood, alcohol and hints of roasted nuts and port wine. Pretty good but way to sweet to be really good...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
C-Bus 7 Bottle shared by moejuck via papsoe: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma, alcohol, chocolate, lots of dark fruits, floral, some brown sugar. Flavor, licorice, chocolate, dark fruits, some spice, and a slight funk to it. Very complex flavor, medium bodied, but it felt a little on the hot side for me. Still very enjoyable.
