This is always one of my favorite Xmas beers. Bottle. Black with a thin creamy light brown head. Sweet nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon aroma up front followed by cola and earthy chocolate scents. Nice bright lively palate. Tastes of chocolate and caramel followed by a big all spice bite and finishing with a slightly off sourness. Not the best year.

24-NOV-2012, bottle @home. Huge brown head on almost black body. Very smooth roast, almost burnt, some spice, eucalyptus. Full body, creamy. Long roasted, hoppy finish. Very good. Had this after several X-mas brews, and this is the best so far this year.

Aroma is of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Quite a bit of alcohol. Taste is very dry, smoky with a fair bit of spice. The finish is extremely dry and ash try like. It’s like sucking on a lump of coal. Definitely one for sharing!

Draught @ Olutravintola Kahdet Kasvot
Aroma has cocoa, vanilla and spices. Flavour is rather spicy with well roasted (almost burned) malt, some cocoa, licorice, very dark chocolate and vanilla. Dry finish with harsh bitterness. Too spicy and too roasted - just like the older vintages. The licorice and chocolate notes are nice though.

Pretty yummy stuff me thinks. crazy tired but aint gonna let this one slide by minus a rating. Black with a big ass bubbly dark brown cap that lasts and made my glass pretty ugly. Should have reviewed this at 930 when i opened it. The aroma is great at points and all over the place at others - here’s the things my brain told me after my nose told my brain: chocolate, raisins, dry oats, anise, salt, soft roast, toffeeish candy, changes quite a lot with some forgetful sitting. The flavours are full and assertive. Stiff bitterness begins and follows all sips with strength but not ruining power... but it can get close. I want to learn how to draw feet. Pepper burn, deep roast and a borderline burnt something something, woody, chocolate. Can’t quite figure out when the harshness should be there and when it should just go away. Berries are the sweetness that can be found if I really pay attention. At this point of constant sipping my mouth is a charred mess - kinda dig that. Mellow carbonation, lasting mouth reminders of the strength of this brew. For some reason it doesn’t taste as good when you drink the last half directly out of the bottle.... goes down nice though. Just had a ’waiting for a donair at lunch in Sherwood Park" flashback... jesus.

olio (4078) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 20, 2012
Draught @ Naamat, Tampere.
Pours deep black color with a medium-sized beige head, leaves a nice lace. Aroma is quite intensive with dark chocolate, dark roasted malts, mild vanilla notes, some cocoa powder also, topacco and hints of toffee and licorice. Flavour dark roasted malts, some bilberries and other dark berries, hoppy and fruity notes, a dash of oat, dark mocha-like chocolate and some caramel. Almost velvety palate with a dry malty finish. Very good.
