Draft at CK. Rich black pour with a thick tan head. Nose and flavor bring stunning roasted malt, touches of char, bitter dark chocolate, and hints of plum and fig. Actually reminds me of a slightly less complex and less big Expedition; really smooth and drinkable on the palate. I dig this.

Taste of huge dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, smoke, coffee, molasses, citrus, pine, and spiciness. Good amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of big dark chocolate, caramel, smoke, and coffee on the finish for a bit. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and lush mouth-feel. Alcohol is pretty much invisible, hardly any warming after the finish. Overall this is an interesting and tasty Baltic porter with huge robust flavor and easy drinking.

Keg at Kulovy Blesk. Pours Black with a tan head. Enticing roasty aroma. The flavour is chocolatey with vanilla and smoke. There’s an outside suggestion of festive spice and some charred wood. Thick and full bodied. Outstanding.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Huge chocolate and berry nose, dried fruits, light coffee. Very tempting. Lovely tan, rocky head on black beer. Huge chocolate and café au lait flavor. Chocolate cake. Woody roastiness and pretty big bitterness too. Berries. Some phenols. Very thick and rich. Excellent stuff.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ 18th Christmasbeer festival in Essen. The annual Mikkeller holiday card / Christmas porter which I must admit is still a pretty cool, idea / gift – Mikkel has a lot of these cool ideas going on. Pours a blackish very dark brown with a spotty mocha head. Smell is totally my thing, sweet creamy coffee, very creamy mocha, very milky milk chocolate, cream,…. Taste is totally coffee but unfortunately for me bitter & not sweet coffee, this one has oodles of coffee bitterness in it. I am getting quite bitter coffee, lots of roast, strongly burned, almost nearing campfire, very light turf, charcoal, bitter burned grains, bitter chocolate, I am trying to find some sweetness, only in the end followed by light booze. Slightly grainy body. Great stuff for people who like bitter porter – I personally liked the 2011 way more because that one was sweet :)
