UPDATED: FEB 22, 2014 27.12.2013, 0,75l bottle @ home:
Big brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and sweet, dark malts, caramel, dark sugar, chocolate, salty licorice, coffee, hints of anise and clove. Taste is slightly dry, hops, dark malts, spices, pine needles, coffee, grass, raw licorice, leafs. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Nice enough, think it would be better with even more aging.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to pancake surface leaving sheet lacing. Dark carmel and chocolate aromas. Medium to thick with chocolate, dark caramel and espresso front to back.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle (2012) from Crossroads Spirits. Bought as a Christmas beer to share with my squad (Bob F., Shawn B., Dave M., and the rest were no shows!) the morning of Christmas Eve after work. Pours a rich dark brown/almost black color with a small creamy dark chocolate head. Aroma of smoke, dark chocolate, roasted malt, mild spice, and caramel. Taste of rust, burnt toast, dark chocolate, espresso grounds, grapefruit zest, nutshells, light spice, and a hint boozy vanilla.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at Craig’s tasting. Huge coffee roast, too much coffee, bitter and harsh, not a fan.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Big/huge coffee on the nose. Quite a burned taste with coffee to the fore, too much coffee for my liking. Some pepper and spices but not enough to add some balance

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Firmly dark black with soft beige head. Really gritty seasoned nose, black peppercorn husks and a clean percolated roastedness. I can’t tell if the puckering liquorice/oily hop combo I’m really enjoying because it tastes nice or because the clear hop burn is carrying the sticky liquorice goop through. Spicey, wee bit of a booze burn but looses pace in the last few yards. Smokiness comes through more after a few sips, but I didn’t expect to have to layer this up to get the full impact. Bottle, Black Friday Tasting

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2014 One year old on tap at mikkeller and friends. Good aromas of coffee, chocolate and sweet almonds. Very full bodied beer with a nice sweetness and a lot of complex flavors. Much superior to this years version on bottle but that is of course to be expected.
