Bottle. Opaque black liquid with medium to big tan head. Aroma of vanilla, buttery bourbon, wood, toffee, chocolate, light coffee, caramel and raw sugar. Some light dark fruit as well. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of licorice, bourbon and light chocolate. Reminds me of julmust. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. A bit thin. Lovely aroma but both taste and body is a bit disappointing. Too bad.

Bottle at home (Beers of Europe) 16/12/12. Pitch black with a good tan head that thins but retains as a film and around the edge. Nose is roast malt, bourbon, wood, chocolate, sweet dark sugars. Taste comprises roast malts, sweet sugars, bourbon evident, mineral tones, chocolate, wood tones. Full bodied with fine carbonation, a touch of spritz, sweet finish with a touch of booze. Excellent beer, alcohol is well hidden, good balance between the sugar and the booze.

12.7 oz.  bottle, dark dark brown with smooth dark beige head, strong aroma of bourbon and licorice (maybe rhubarb). Smooth texture. Bourbon forward with bitter chocolate. Almost sour finish, dry. Nice, but bourbon tones are still a bit heavy, would benefit from another year of aging.

@ Mikkeller Bar: Trevlig rostade toner, små ek toner och en tydlig söt ton från bourbon-fatet. Trevlig söt eftersmak,

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2012 Tap. A dark brown body with a small, creamy tan head. Good lacing on the glass. Spicy nose with mostly cinnamon, aniseed and clove, roasted malt and a touch of bourbon with a slightly smoked note and slightly bitter finish. Medium to full bodied, oily tocreamy texture and flat to soft CO2. Excellent.★★★★

Cask at the Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Poured black with a frothy tan head and some short-lived broken lace. The aroma is smoky and the bourbon is very prominent. The flavour is dominated by the bourbon but its not overpowering. There is chewy malt coffee and liqourice in there too. I'd have preferred something a little smoother and I think it should have been served a little warmer too, bit it's still a great beer.

On tap at Mikkeller Bar, November 2012. Almost black with a small tan head. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, wood, some bourbon and notes of alcohol. The finish was on the sweet side with a light tartness.

Tap at Mikkeller Bar, Black Sensation. Opaque black brown with a small brown head. Nose is dark fruity, heavy roasted with clear notes of bourbon, wood and some booze. Taste follows the nose, sweet with some smokey notes and a not so nice tartness in the finish. Texture is oddly watery, not exactly a.beer in perfect balance...

In bottle at Craig’s. Pours a very dark brown colour with a fair tan head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, prunes, raisins and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel. Nicely bitter with lingering bourbon and oak. A little vanilla also.
