It is enough to see this beer to understand that this is real stuff. The beer has a strong odor of chocolate, roasted malt and some smoke. This is a really tasty beer. First comes a distinct flavor of licorice, before the fine shades of dark berries, especially blackcurrant, take over. It is also significantly with spices, especially coriander. Sweetness is well balanced against a more dark roasted character, some coffee and well-integrated alcohol. This is admittedly a strong beer, and alcohol stings a bit in the end, but not more than that it is suitable for the Christmas meal. Mikkeller has made a strong, tasty and beautiful porter. It is perhaps not quite what we expect from a Christmas beer here , but it is a quite as good alternative. Recommended!

Bottle, 75cL. Home. A pitch black beer with a brown creamy foam head. Medium persistence. Good lacing. Aroma of smoke, caramel, ashes, licorice, coffee, chocolate, light blackberry, herbs. Medium to heavy sweet with light to medium bitter. Nice. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish with a warming note. Overall, it rocks !! Intense complex aroma, powerful. Delicious.

Flaska från SB. Svart vätska med kraftigt nästan brunsvart skum. Enorma mängder av kaffe och chokladarom. Fruktig och mjuk i smaken. Mer kakao och kaffe. Efter ett tag framträder röda syltiga bär. Kul lagringsemperiment från 2011.

Oh my, I have been anticipating this one for a long while. Last years was not that good so I’m happy to be able to step back a few years in time with this 2011 bottle. Here we go...
Pours black with a big dark brown head that rests down to a bubbly film. Aroma has citrus/herbal hops, roasted malt, old coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is as above but with some slight tart note. Thick mouth feel, full body, soft carbonation. After taste is short, dry and chocolatey bitter.
3 years old and held up very nice. Much more well composed/balanced compared to a fresh bottle but thats, of course, pretty much expected.

750ml bottle from Antioch Fine Wine. Appears to be the 2011 version from the label (certainly is not the 2012/2013 versions). Pours a very, very dark brown with a milk chocolate head leaving some nice lacing. Aroma has heavy roast, dark chocolate, toffee and burnt sugars. Yummy. Taste is of sweet milk chocolate, chocolate liquour, toffee and espresso. Medium to full bodied, and super smoooooth. Faint alcohol presence. Finishes long and nicely balanced on that bitter/sweet scale. This is lovely; rich, smooth and tasty.

27-DEC-2013, bottle @home. Unclear Brown with lasting, lacing tan head. Aroma is spice, fruit, bread, coffee and other roasted stuff. Taste the same. Full body and soft carbonation. Fantastic. Had it side by side with the 2012 that was slightly better.
