12oz bottle 9/19/13 (Binny’s Glen Ellyn)-44° in Snifter-Pours a murky brown with floaties. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel. dried fruit, toffee, and sweetness. Taste of malt and hops. This full bodied brew is well balanced and is almost Barley Wine meets DIPA.

Bottle @ RG 20. Hazy caramel color with foamy cream head. Really sweet smelling with a hint of sour dough bread. Tastes really sweet- not as bitter as the others.

Butters (3685) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JUN 9, 2013
Sampled at the Richmond Gathering 20th! pours a clear copper amber with good tan head. Looks identical amongst all beers. Doughy and caramel and hoppy as hell on the aroma and flavor. It is VERY difficult to discern any noticeable difference. The most ’caramelly’ of the batches, also the sweetest, and possibly a little less hoppy than the others. The massive hopping pushes this into the DIPA category and i think the style masks any effects of the different yeasts.

12oz bottle poured into snifter. 1st bottle opened for my "Massive Mikkeller" tasting. I’m guessing this one was on the shelf for a little too long because it just seemed a little blah to me. Malty with hints of hops, but it didn’t really strike me fancy all that much.

11.2oz bottle from Gomer’s Lees Summit, MO. Totally forgot I had all these. Pours a murky, orange-amber colored body with a finger-width, dense, frothy and creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is citrus orange hops, sweet caramel, fruity esters, and touches of pine. Flavor is orange hops with some pine, sweet caramel, a light herbal spice, yeasty esters, and a hint of toffee. Finishes dry and fairly bitter with lots or herbal orange pines as well as a sweet caramel. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a medium-high carbonation. Overall, I’m sure this was better fresh, but even so I’m not sure if I would be the biggest fan of it. Looking forward to knocking out the other 2 in the series.
