3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle, BB 15.04.17 (from Koht). Pours dark brown-black with light brown head. The head stays. Aroma is bitter, roast, licorice, coffee. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roast, coffee, licorice, some orange notes. Finish is roast-pine bitter with strong licorice notes. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: ok, but a bit over the top (unbalanced). Drinkability isn’t really good (wouldn’t want 2nd bottle).

330ml bottle from Cornelius. Pours black with a thick tan head. Strong chocolate orange aromas. Dark chocolate and candied peel. Light roast. Taste is like Christmas, minus the spice. Chocolate orange all over. It’s not Terry’s, it’s mine.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
pours unclear very dark brown with a large creamy cream cap, nice lacing. fragrant chocolate, bitter chocolate - like impossible 90% cacao; grapefruit bitterness, tons of licorice, cold brewed coffee - some acidity; dusty burnt raisins, rubber, ashes, clean yeast otherwise. moderate carbonation, medium body - oily and stout-ish; assertive bitter citrus finish. kind of overdone malt bill as per roasting level mostly. but tasty and original.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours nice black with a medium beige head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is of intense roasted grains, licorice and light chocolate. Taste is not dry but not that sweet either and loaded with coffee flavors and some light citrus maybe. Can’t say the zest was upfront at all, way less than I expected and not enough to be a key item in this recipe. Some ash. Oh, now I get the orange-like acidity. Piny hops. Long lasting bitter finish. Body is full and it sticks a lot on the lips. Moderate carbonation. A lot of warming alcohol and it does taste stronger than it is in reality. Not bad but not something I would come back to.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Nice opaque black pour with rich borwn foam, tonas of chunks in the bottom of the glass though, not quite as appetizing. Aroma is nice and roasty, tons of burnt grain, light coffee, dark chocolate, orange, orange chocolates. Taste is mildly sweet, nice bitter roasty flavor, chewy, light caramel, chocolate, mild juicy flavor. Palate is med bodied, nice and chewy, low-med carbonation. Tasty stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (330 ml) at home. Dark brown with a frothy brown head leaving intense lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, orange zest, chocolate, mild piney presence and mild ashy notes. Taste is of roasted malts, dark chocolate, orange zest, ashes, mild acidic presence, hints of anise and mild bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Mouthfeel is starting creamy but is quickly cut by acidity. There’s a bit of green peppers in the finish. Not the easiest Porter to drink because of the combination of ingredients (and especially the mild anise presence in taste), but it’s hard to argue that it isn’t tasty.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. Very dark brown-black in colour pouring with a large dark brown rocky head of foam. It has a roasted coffee, liquorice and orange flavour with chocolate and spicy fruit, oak and vanilla on the finish. Superb!
