Cask conditioned at The Lower Red Lion, St Albans, Herts. Dark brown beer with no head. Shar, slightly off smell of cereal, with a tarry inky feel. Sweet and sour in the mouth with a serious malty bitterness. Far too challenging on a long day. Wasn’t sure about this.

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Very dark, but not opaque. Some red shafts reflect the fact that this is a rye beer. Nicely balanced, sweet cereal flavour. Caramel. Some metal but gentle. A little stoutiness too. Interesting and quite tasty.
