StueyD (812) - Heacham, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, ENGLAND - JUN 1, 2006
A dark chocolate brow to black beer with reddish hints, topped by a thick beige head. A heavy, vinous nose, sweet malt with hints of cereal, toasted nuts and liquorice. The taste is bittersweet, toasted malt and cereal, then the winey element comes through along with a liquorice flavour. Also chocolatey and a slight nuttinerss in the finish. (Cask - The Fox & Hounds, Heacham, Norfolk).

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Very dark, but not opaque. Some red shafts reflect the fact that this is a rye beer. Nicely balanced, sweet cereal flavour. Caramel. Some metal but gentle. A little stoutiness too. Interesting and quite tasty.

On cask at The Maltings in York. Pours a dark brown colour with a thick beige head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and toasted rye. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Mildly bitter with lingering dark chocolate and burnt toast.

Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Dark brown, off-white foamy head which was big and first and dissolved slowly. Smell of cereals and bitter hops, very malty and complex in the mouth. Smooth.

Leighton (6956) - London, ENGLAND - MAR 18, 2011
Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Ruby-gold pour with a light film. Good hops, some toasty biscuit. Mild caramel flavor, light earth. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Mild sticky finish, some sugars. Good balance, though with a slight medicinal note. Pretty good stuff overall.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2007 Deep mahogany body with reddish tints. Vanilla foam and lace. Lovely creamy sourish coffee, chocolate, caramel. Red wine creaminess and a tang of fruity booze. A fine, foody pint.

imdownthepub (8492) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 1, 2006
Cask conditioned at The Lower Red Lion, St Albans, Herts. Dark brown beer with no head. Shar, slightly off smell of cereal, with a tarry inky feel. Sweet and sour in the mouth with a serious malty bitterness. Far too challenging on a long day. Wasn’t sure about this.
