Bottle from Pig’s Ear 2008, bb 28 Aug 2009, at least 4 years old
Cloudy dark amber color, with a lot of sediment. Some aroma of malt, oxidisation, sourness. Oxidized malt flavor, some caramel, some alcohol perception, and moderate but distrurbing sourness.
Ok, it’s old, but a real Barley Wine should hold up longer.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
10th May 2009
Cloudy amber beer. Slightly dry and crisp palate. Reasonable carbonation. Says it’s a barleywine but really comes accross as a sour beer and a decent one at that! Good sourish malt that tickles the tastebuds without ever approaching lambic like acid. A little sweet malt at the end. Dry sour aftertaste.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Hazy brown with a small head. Aromas are toffee malts with citrus and yeast. Alcohol is quite evident. Flavours are woody and dry with tart spiced oranges. Yeasty with sweet caramel and hints of berry. Seems a bit tainted.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. Very murky from the bottom of the bottle. Tastes muddy. Sweet and sour notes. Not too appealing, maybe infected, or perhaps just too sludgy? Default score. Flagged for re-rate.
