Cask at The Merchants Inn, Rugby - 25/07/12. Pours a dark brown to black with a thinnish tan head. Malts in the aroma, a little leather, dark fruit and chocolate. Tastes of roasted malt, quite sweet, pinch of chocolate. Dry and sweet in the finish, lacking in body and somewhat on the watery side.

Cask conditioned handpump Mermaid St Albans 03/08/12. A black beer with a little head and off-white lacing. A sweet and sour stout. Said to have vanilla but I didn’t get any. It’s a reasonable stout but the sourness doesn’t sit particularly right.
