This is a Northern French style of farmhouse ale traditionally made in the winter months and then laid-down in a cellar (thus the "Bière de Garde" appellation) for drinking throughout the year. Ours is a traditional amber beauty presented unfiltred with the yeast still in it to add to the slightly fruity/spicy aroma and creaminess of palate. Brewed with a blend of North American and European malt and hops, Ambre de la Chaudiere is a true reflection of our Canadian immigrant culture. Named after the famous Chaudière Falls beside our Brewery, this beer pays homage to a time gone by when honest craftmanship and simplicity were truly valued. Sante!

355 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber colour with a quickly fading, medium sized, off white head. Aroma is fruity, spicy and some yeast. Flavour is sweet, ripe fruit, caramel, spice and yeast.

"On tap at the Ottawa brewpub: Had a good size head. Barely any carbonation. Deep orange hues. No lacing. For flavour, tasting bananas, but more strongly I feel, mangos! Feels thick going down. Reminds me of a freshly poured glass of fruity type juice (like mangos. hmm). But with 7% abv. :) Only available at the Ottawa location!"

On tap at the Ottawa brewpub. Hazy blonde pour. Yeasty and bubble gum nose. Flavor has bubble gum esters, slight red apple, yeast. Wheaty, frothy mouthfeel. More of a messy wheat saison to me, but not bad.

Bottle, shared with my wife over homemade fried rice. Deep brassy golden colour, short-lived white head that recedes to a faint ring. Aroma is sweet and very estery (bubblegum, cherries), a little spicy too. Sweet malty palate, bubblegum, ripe fruits, light spices.

Pours a cloudy orange/brown with lots of foamy white head. Smell is citrus, bread, and caramel. Palate is medium bodied with average carbonation. Taste is sweet at first then gets slightly bitter and the shifts between the two and mingles. Very nice and surprisingly good beer from mill street.

Pours a slightly hazed orange with a modest amount of carbonation and topped with white head that quickly falls. Aroma has a mild amount of apple/pear/grape fruitiness with some light malt and hops late in the nose. Flavor is fantastic with strong apple and grape notes followed by some light spicy hops, light sweet grainy and a touch of alcohol hotness at the very end. Body is modest with a slight oily feeling to it. Overall a very tasty brew once it warms up a slightly less than room temp.

[4573-20120623] Tap. Mild toasted fruity yeast aroma. Clear, orange body with a quick foamy white head. Fruity grainy light citrus yeasty malt flavour. Medium body. Interesting to sample. (6/3/7/3/13) 3.2

This is an ugly looking beer. Looks like an unfiltered dark apple cider. It pours a very hazed golden-brown with no head. The aroma is yeast, apples (maybe the cider comment isn’t off the mark) and some grains. I don’t get any of the funk associated with Biere de Gardes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour has the funk I was missing in the aroma, with yeasty notes, and hints of apple.
