This is a Northern French style of farmhouse ale traditionally made in the winter months and then laid-down in a cellar (thus the "Bière de Garde" appellation) for drinking throughout the year. Ours is a traditional amber beauty presented unfiltred with the yeast still in it to add to the slightly fruity/spicy aroma and creaminess of palate. Brewed with a blend of North American and European malt and hops, Ambre de la Chaudiere is a true reflection of our Canadian immigrant culture. Named after the famous Chaudière Falls beside our Brewery, this beer pays homage to a time gone by when honest craftmanship and simplicity were truly valued. Sante!

Drank this from a pint glass, poured from a large bottle. Thank you Bjorn for holding onto this one for me. A solid farmhouse!

7,99$ for 750ml bottle. Smell is unpleasantly oversweetened, with spicy notes, that quickly gave me a bad feeling about what I was about to drink. Sweet malts and a, to me, pretty bland hoppyness, make this brew barely pleasant and quite forgettable. Not badly done: I just don’t like it much...

Look, I’ll be up front. I’ve been disappointed with Mill Street for a while. There seasonal have been disappointing in the last couple of years. I used to really enjoy their brews, I can still enjoy a Tankhouse, but... I saw this fancy bottle (swingtop with wax, ooh la la) and thought I’d try. And well, it’s alright. Nose is caramel malt, a little molasses, and a touch of booze. The taste is heavy on the malt, caramel, toasty, very nice, a little sweet. Mild spice, very rich mouth feel. But, well, that’s it. Kinda a letdown from the très chic bottle, and the price.

(1847-100616)

Big bottle. Orange brown, big white head. Sweet aroma like sugar, the taste is sweet and herby but it tastes a lot of alcohol for being such a weak beer.

750 ml bottle from LCBO. 9% alc/vol. Pours a hazy deep amber colour with one finger of head. Aroma of bananas, apples, toffe, and roasted malts. Taste matches the aroma with a slight hoppy finish. Moderate carbonation. I think this is Mill St. Brewery’s best beer so far.

Pours a really lightly hazy amber with a small white head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of lightly husky cereals with a slight fruitiness. Taste is fruity as well with some multigrain bread. Light to medium bitterness. Body is medium, carbonation moderately low and the alcohol is drying. Sticky. A pretty good bière de garde, I need to sample a few more to adjust my palate, though.

Bottle: Poured a light hazy amber color ale with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cereal notes with light fruity ester is quite nice. Taste is a nice mix of cereal notes with some fruity ester with light residual sugar notes. Body is full with nice creamy notes and good level of carbonation. Really impressed with this beer with good drinkability and pretty much fit with the style guideline.
