Bitters have been the common drink in English pubs for decades. Mill St ESB uses only traditional ingredients, Marris Otter malt and Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops, all imported from England. With light malt and hops in the nose, this copper coloured ale gives rise to a malty body with hints of chocolate and black currents. The hoppiness is always present but never out of balance in this style.

On tap, Kildare House, Windsor Ontario. Dark amber pour with a soft white head. Nutty malt aroma. Flavour is malty with trace of citrus hops. Restrained bitterness. Light body and carbonation. Was a good session ale.

On tap at Rhino in westend Toronto. Amber with white head. Sweet hoppy malt aroma. Flat, sweet light malt with very little bitterness. ESB my ass. I hope I just got a bad pour and it isnít supposed to taste that bad.

POurs deep amber with nice notes of bitterness. The hops show a decent amount of flavor on the finsh but the bitterness comes thriugh.

On cask at the Mill Street Brew Pub. A noticeably bitter taste, with good hops coming through. An easy drink, but not overly impressive.

Fruity hops nose, some malt, deep copper, pours a fair sized toffee head. Flavour has pitfruit, hops and lots of malt. Really well balanced, light bodied, easy drinking. Lovely session ale. Well done again Michael Duggan! Canít wait to try this on Cask.

Growler from the brewery. Copper orange in colour with little head or lacing. Nice malty aroma with brown sugar and coffee. Tastes very much as it smells, with the addition of a lovely lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is tinny and a little thin - not unusual for the style. Pretty good. Iíll get this one again.

Served as a deep, coppery/red with golden lowlights under an ecru head settling to a watery film. Aromas are dry & lemony with orange rind and tea bitters. Quite aromatic, actually. Balanced flavor leaning towards bitterness, a bit like sucking on a full-flavored tea bag. Mid-bodied with a thinning sharpness and mild mineral notes in the finish. My wife says, "I could totally session this", and I agree.

On tap at Volo. Unimpressed. Similar to their tankhouse ale, but without the flavour. Bitter, but unpleasingly so. The brew is not your run of the mill beer, but it just made me cringe.
