COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bitters have been the common drink in English pubs for decades. Mill St ESB uses only traditional ingredients, Marris Otter malt and Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops, all imported from England. With light malt and hops in the nose, this copper coloured ale gives rise to a malty body with hints of chocolate and black currents. The hoppiness is always present but never out of balance in this style.

Admittedly Iím not the biggest ESB fan, but this one seemed pretty solid. Amber in colour with a thick white head. Grainy and hoppy in scent with a hint of malt. Starts off slow and slightly sweet like caramel, then finishs off with a hoppy malt bitter aftertaste. Pretty decent for the style of beer, but nothing to write home about.

on tap at the mill street brewpub. I have to say, its not spectacular, i find the oktoberfest, tankhouse, esb, and IPA are all VERY similar with just very very very subtle differences. decent beer, but nothing great

Pint of clear amber with typical to bitter ales bright white top.
Fresh grainy nose with good dose of refreshing hops.
I liked this ale . Good , clean work . Malt base developed well, hoppy presence to no much (itís not IPA), but felt all right. Itís nothing you will go crazy for but gotta say that it was brewed with out any major faults. Clean, solid brew. Light enough to be perfect choice as local session beer. Feel like having good chat with friends on Friday eve, this might be the beer to choose for.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2010 [090-20061104] Tap @ Mill St. (Toronto, ON). Light yeasty grain aroma. Cloudy, ruddy orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Hoppy flavour, grainy yeast, lightly fruity. Harsh palate but nice. (6/4/6/3/12) 3.1

[3375B-20100911] Cask. Metallic wet moss aroma, like a forest leafy floor after it rains. Hazy, dark golden brown body with a long-lasting big foamy off-white head. Wet peat moss flavour has a lingering grassy hops aftertaste and generally a mild watery chocolate grain throughout. Medium body. Could be more interesting with more carbonation but fine to sample. On tap at the brewpub. Amber colour with a nice head. A well balanced beer. Very good. I do agree with StoompBrockmore - it could be "kicked up a notch "

Draught. Deep copper with a small white creamy head. Decent aroma consisting of orange, slightly buttery cereal, and fruity hops. Sharp and mildly bitter. Bready malt spine and generic hop characteristics. Somewhat forgetable in the end.
Tasted at the brewpub on January 5, 2007.

Draught at the brewpub. Lightly hazy amber brown with not much head. A glass transfer to share later earnes a fairly big one. Muted aroma of flat toasty caramel malt. Light bitterness and a light hint of toasty malt in the flavour that fosters a sharp bite in the caramel malt. Hops add little beyond the bitterness. Average palate. Will try this again sometime as this was clearly not as good as the other ratings here.

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2006 Draught at the Mill St. Brewpub - came lightly hazy orange with a very thin white head. Aroma is quite light but very nice, bready and fruity. Flavour is very soft with notes of floral hops, fruity malt, with a very lightly bitter finish. This is very well balanced and well carbonated, and I can imagine it making a great cask beer. Very light tasting. I could deal with everything being kicked up one notch for slightly more "oooomph", like the Rogue Brutal Bitter, but otherwise this is a very good ESB.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2009 On tap at the Mill St. brewpub - came a hazy gold colour, with a thin white head that lasted for a bit. Earthy, bready aroma, but not huge - fairly subtle. Taste was very nice - lightly hoppy, balanced with the quality malt, and then a pleasant light bitter finish. Would be nice if it was slightly less carbonated, and would be delicious in cask form. Very soft in the mouth. A really good session bitter. Update - had on cask at the brewpub. Itís all of the above, but softer and more flavourful, with a slightly slippery mouthfeel. Superb. Note: had this on cask dry-hopped at the brewpub last night and it was delicious - try it out if you get a chance. Not hugely complex or amazing, just really simple and drinkable.
