Golden-red colour. Very woody hop nose with some caramel. Dry, woody IPA with lots of centennial and cascade. Solid caramel backbone. Dry, slightly herbal, woody finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JoeMcPhee (6835) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 28, 2011
Deep amber pour with a tight white head. The aroma is lightly sweet with some soft crystal malt sweetness and an (unfortunate) iced tea character that I could do without. Light citrus and a bit of toasted grain. As it warms up though it takes on a more intense citrus and spice note, with a herbal sort of aromatic hoppiness that I kind of enjoy. Sort of a Janus, this one is.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lubiere (6707) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 26, 2009
A reddish amber IPA with a thin off white head. A nice restrained hops in aroma, light caramel notes. In mouth, a nice light IPA, herbal, a bit light than expected. On tap at Smokeless Joes, March 23, 2009.
2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Sammy (5888) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 5, 2006
On-tap first week at the brewpub. Good head and lace on golden-orange body. Off-aroma, like a washroom. Bitter grapefruit concentrate taste, not bad, but a whole pint is too much mostly because of aggressive carbonation, which also detracts from an otherwise smooth mouthfeel. Mediocre for its style.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jerc (5444) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 1, 2007
Draught at the brewpub. Copper amber body, with a small off white head. Strong hop aroma is lightly minerally and earthy. Similar flavour to the aroma, fairly bitter with notes of earthy green hops with some well balanced supporting malt. Average palate. A very solid English style IPA, but it is not super exciting and makes me wonder why bother when they already make the Tankhouse which is in similar territory, albeit leaning more towards the American style of hopping. Looking at the other ratings it seems to be all over the map as to whether or not there is citrus mentioned... Hmmmm... Maybe they are tweaking the recipe?
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Radek Kliber (5171) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - JUN 7, 2007
On tap at Brew Pub
Aroma: mildly hoppy nose, sweet malt character behind, hints of spice. Aroma was not typical to IPA , a bit subdued
Appearance: amber with small thick creamy head.
Mild, smooth medium full bodied. Spicy bitter hops. Character of this bitter ale was more of British counterparts than North American. Pleasantly warming, clean with hop presence long lasting. All this in full bodied wrap.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 HogTownHarry (4809) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - NOV 8, 2006
Draught. At the Mill Street Brewpub. Poured bright clear refractive copper with a decent creamy head. Lightly malty aroma, medium herbal hops. Taste is very malty with some bitter herbal hops in the finish - not really an IPA, NorAm or UK, but a decent ale. Decently thick body, mildly bitter and carbonated - very quick finish, some hops in the aftertaste, but just okay. It’s an odd-looking IPA, and more of a pale really - an enjoyable quaff.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beershine (4561) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - SEP 18, 2008
at brewpub. Red, clear, off-white head. Unexpected berries in nose. Not tasting totally fresh. Is more floral than hoppy in the aroma. Soft mouthfeel. Some hop is there in the aftertaste. It’s balanced and fruity but disappointing.
