On tap at the Toronto brewpub. Pours a clear copper colour with modest-sized off-white head. Aroma is smoky with some sweet caramel, grains and light fruity notes. Flavour is smoky with some bacon and woody notes as well as a solid caramel, cereal maltiness. Syrupy mouthfeel. Decent.

Great seasonal beer. Can be found on tap at select locations or the Mill St Brewpub. You cannot buy in bottles, but you can get the 1.89L growlers from the Mill St Brewery store (which works out better in some cases!).

En fût au Mill Street Ottawa. Couleur ambrée-brune, mousse beige pâle. Arôme de fumée et lardons. En bouche, malt, bacon, fumée de bois. Bien balancée, goûteuse, un eexcellente Rauchbier

Growler. Amber- brown pour. The aroma is a bit salty and kind of odd. Moderate smoke but also some faint sulphur and odd astringency. A little bit of toasted malt and a very flinty but insistent bitterness. Meh - an odd sort of celery salt character as well. Oddly fruity as it warms up. This ain’t no rauch.

Tap from Brew Pub in Toronto. This one’s not doing much for me. Very light smoke, some peat like in an Islay scotch, but not that present overall. Some roasty malt. Getting some metal as well.

A reddish clear brown rauch with a thin compact brown head. In aroma, a light peaty caramel malt with light smokiness, and light grassy notes. In mouth, a nice smooth sweet caramel malt with light peated notes, nutty and roasted, a bit tin, but good. On tap at Ottawa location, April 15 2012.

October 21, 2010 at The Toronto Beer Experience, Berkley Church. Draught - we think. Deep clear refractive ruby/copper with a big creamy beige head. Aroma is up-front smoky and nutshell bitter, with a fairly sweet cereal backbone, just a hint of coffee (7-). Taste is pretty big rauch - kerosene, woodsmoke, bacon, the whole nine yards - but sweet grain in the background. A bit thin-bodied, astringent for sure, mildly carbonated, with a tangy/smoky linger to it. Nice.

On tap at brewpub. Pours a dark ruby-brown, with quite a bit of off white head. Aroma and taste are roasted, smoky malt, almost a smoked salmon woodiness to it. Very authentic to the style. Reminicent of Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen, slightly milder smokiness.

Draught at the ’The Toronto Beer Experience’, Berkeley Church. Pours a deep ruby-amber with a small diminishing off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and light smoke. Flavour’s malty along with some light smoke, wood and a dry finish. Medium bodied. Not as smoky as I’d like but it’s still pretty good.
