Deep amber colour and made with lightly smoked malt and Lanark County maple syrup, Spring Thaw Maple Ale is the perfect way to cope with the late winter blahs! We smoke part of the malt ourselves and then infuse the beer with eastern Ontario maple syrup from the Wheeler’s Family sugar bush in MacDonald’s Corners to give it a slightly sweet, wonderful hardwood-smoked character. Very lightly hopped, this is a variant of a carbonated Irish Red Ale. This beer will break the ice and wrap you in warmth at the end of a long winter. Go forth!

Pours a dark brown with an amber hue, thin off white head that quickly disappears. Medium carbonation. Aroma is of mostly smoke malt with hints of vanilla, molasses, and dark bread. surprisingly no maple. Taste is sweet and malty to start with notes of molasses, brown sugar, and a touch of roastiness. In the finish there is just a hint of smoke that helps break the sweetness. Mouthfeel was a little thin. the finish was quite dry which was nice after finding many maple beers to be quite cloying. Overall not my favourite beer(maybe my favourite maple beer though) but I wouldn’t object to finishing the other two. I found this to be more of a maple smoked beer than a maple syrup beer which was a nice surprise. Decent spring offering from mill street

Reddish amber pour with a weird head, large clear bubbles dissipating quickly. Smells smoky and woody. Very slight hop sparkle, subtle smokiness, medium bodied but rich for a medium body to give it a creamy character. Definite sweetness from the syrup, but not overpowering. The beer is true to its goal and is pretty good overall.

En fût au pub d’Ottawa. Couleur ambrée-brune, mousse beige mince. Arôme de fumée et malt. En bouche, mélange de malt caramel, un peu d’érable, et de la fumée. Mince. Il y a un petit qqch qui accroche.

Pours slightly hazy medium amber with a short light tan head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, no lacing. (3/5) Nose is moderate smoke, mild maple syrup. (5/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter, moderate smoke. (4/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, mildly bitter finish. (3/5) The brewery says this is an Irish Red, Beer Advocate says it’s a Scotch Ale, and RateBeer says it’s a Spice/Herb/Vegetable. Me, I don’t see any reason not to call this a rauchbier - smoke is pretty much the dominant flavour, followed by mild maple syrup. Actually, when I first smelled it, it reminded me of nothing so much as kippers - though on followup, there is actually no fish flavour. Not unpleasant, but I remain less than convinced when it comes to most smoked styles. (10/20)

The Maple Ale's smokey flavor reminded me of Maple Bacon and Smoked Salmon..not together of course. I would order it again but I would not seek it out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Orange with a white, lasting, creamy head. Sweet smell of caramel, brown sugar and maple with swet malt. Tastes of sweet malt and caramel with a slight bitter stale finish. Easy enough to drink but thin.

Smells like maple. Very light orange pour with quite a bit of head. Maple taste is there but not nearly as strong as the scent would indicate. Easy to drink. It’s okay. Not a huge fan of the maple.

Bottle. Amazing malty sweet chocolate aroma very much like a damn good barley wine. Amber brown color, off white head that kept a tiny layer. Taste is malty sweet milk chocolate with a bitter sweet finish. Very refreshing. Overall a very tasty flavored beer.

bottle from spring mix pack LCBO. Brown with beige head and some nice lace. Malty and biscuity aroma with some hops. Taste is a little earthy with a heavy malt presence. subtle undertones of pancakes with maple syrup. Stick mouthfeel. Not bad, but nothing spectacular.

Pours a lovely amber with minimal head. Mild aroma of hops, can’t really detect any maple. Happily, it is much more pronounced in the tasting without being overpowering. The maple is light enough to enjoy without being cloying, and there is a smokey quality to this that I find rather attractive. It could use a bit more weight to it, though- the flavours seems a bit too distant and mild.

Pours dark amber with good lacing head. Tried this twice - the first time I thought it was a bit plain. Tried a few days later with a clean palate and I don’t know how I didn’t detect the strong maple my first time round.
