COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep amber colour and made with lightly smoked malt and Lanark County maple syrup, Spring Thaw Maple Ale is the perfect way to cope with the late winter blahs! We smoke part of the malt ourselves and then infuse the beer with eastern Ontario maple syrup from the Wheeler’s Family sugar bush in MacDonald’s Corners to give it a slightly sweet, wonderful hardwood-smoked character. Very lightly hopped, this is a variant of a carbonated Irish Red Ale. This beer will break the ice and wrap you in warmth at the end of a long winter. Go forth!

Pours a dark brown with an amber hue, thin off white head that quickly disappears. Medium carbonation. Aroma is of mostly smoke malt with hints of vanilla, molasses, and dark bread. surprisingly no maple. Taste is sweet and malty to start with notes of molasses, brown sugar, and a touch of roastiness. In the finish there is just a hint of smoke that helps break the sweetness. Mouthfeel was a little thin. the finish was quite dry which was nice after finding many maple beers to be quite cloying. Overall not my favourite beer(maybe my favourite maple beer though) but I wouldn’t object to finishing the other two. I found this to be more of a maple smoked beer than a maple syrup beer which was a nice surprise. Decent spring offering from mill street

UPDATED: APR 8, 2014 The maple in this one is heavier & thicker then I noticed on other maple beer’s. The maple was the best part of this ale. Maybe I keep this one too cold because it say’s there is smoked malt in it & I don’t remember a smoked taste in it. Maybe I will in one of the other 2 bottles. A thick heavier maple taste in an ale. Cheer’s. P.S. This beer had a bit of a grassy bite to it. This beer was kinda like an English bitter/IPA.

Bottle from their spring 2014 seasonal six-pack. Nose not that strong on this beer. Mostly malts with just the occasional hint of maple. Pours a clear dark brown with a beige head that reduces to a ring around the edge of the glass. Tastes heavy on the malts, an upfront hit of smoke, some bitterness that sticks around for the finish. And maple floating around the back as a general sweetness. This is the third one I’ve had of these (3 per pack) and while I’ve enjoyed the beer, I’m not overwhelmed. Used to be enthralled with Mill St as it was right a the forefront, in Toronto, of this craft brew renaissance we’re in right now. Super hoppy (for the time) Tankhouse, innovative Organic, etc. But they’ve failed to really keep pace with the awesome brews being produced out there. Not to say they don’t have a few good ones for sale both in-store and at their brew-pub but...

Copper pour with tan head. Hint of maple on the nose. Little sweet with somewhat of a crisp hop finish. Easy drinking.

[5218-20130412] 355mL bottle. Plastic nutty grains aroma. Clear, bright amber orange body with a quick foamy white head. Bitter grains flavour mixed with sweetly toasted maple wood notes. Medium body. Interesting. (5/3/6/3/12) 2.9

Last pour from the 2014 Ottawa Winterbrewed - shouldn’t have let my friend choose the beer but he was nice enough to drive me home...o well. Very light copper with a tan head. Sweet, somewhat cloying maple that reminds me of Aunt Jamima more then anything else, some toffee, brown sugar, lightly smoked malts. Moderate+ carbonation and mild body, sweet, more brown sugar and maple.

Not very good. Just a light amber or lager with some maple. Pours amber without much head or lacing. Finishes a little bitter, a little sweet. Nothing special here. Tap at Winterbrewed.

Pours a nice clear brown colour with a small creamy tan head that leaves small amounts of lace on the glass. Aroma is smoked malts, maple, some roasted malts and traces of nuts. taste is sweet maple, a good malty presence, smoked malts, light astringent bitterness, and hints of nuttiness. Smells great, good mouthfeel even looks pretty good but i find the taste to be a bit off.

A dark amber ale with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, sweet maple caramel malt with light spicy notes, dark fruits, smooth coffee. In mouth, dark fruity malt with molasses, maple, nutty notes, not bad.

Mostly amber in colour with very little head. You can taste the smoke for sure but not much maple. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
