2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a dark brown with an amber hue, thin off white head that quickly disappears. Medium carbonation.
Aroma is of mostly smoke malt with hints of vanilla, molasses, and dark bread. surprisingly no maple.
Taste is sweet and malty to start with notes of molasses, brown sugar, and a touch of roastiness. In the finish there is just a hint of smoke that helps break the sweetness.
Mouthfeel was a little thin. the finish was quite dry which was nice after finding many maple beers to be quite cloying.
Overall not my favourite beer(maybe my favourite maple beer though) but I wouldn’t object to finishing the other two. I found this to be more of a maple smoked beer than a maple syrup beer which was a nice surprise. Decent spring offering from mill street

Bottle. Amazing malty sweet chocolate aroma very much like a damn good barley wine. Amber brown color, off white head that kept a tiny layer. Taste is malty sweet milk chocolate with a bitter sweet finish. Very refreshing. Overall a very tasty flavored beer.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
bottle from spring mix pack LCBO. Brown with beige head and some nice lace. Malty and biscuity aroma with some hops. Taste is a little earthy with a heavy malt presence. subtle undertones of pancakes with maple syrup. Stick mouthfeel. Not bad, but nothing spectacular.

2.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a lovely amber with minimal head. Mild aroma of hops, can’t really detect any maple. Happily, it is much more pronounced in the tasting without being overpowering. The maple is light enough to enjoy without being cloying, and there is a smokey quality to this that I find rather attractive. It could use a bit more weight to it, though- the flavours seems a bit too distant and mild.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark amber with good lacing head. Tried this twice - the first time I thought it was a bit plain. Tried a few days later with a clean palate and I don’t know how I didn’t detect the strong maple my first time round.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
355ml bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a thin beige head. ZERO maple on the nose, but it does smell pretty tasty. Biscuity malt that hide under some caramel, light chamomile, and very light resinous hops. The taste is medium sweet with roasty malt notes, straw, dark maple syrup, woody notes, and light resinous notes. Entirely decent.

Bottle from The Beer Store. Pours a clear deep reddish brown with a small off white head that disappears quickly. Nose is strong smoke with a maple backing. Nice sweet start with the smoke providing a nice accent to the maple. Medium slick mouth with soft carbonation.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAY 7, 2014 The maple in this one is heavier & thicker then I noticed on other maple beer’s. The maple was the best part of this ale. Maybe I keep this one too cold because it say’s there is smoked malt in it & I don’t remember a smoked taste in it. Maybe I will in one of the other 2 bottles. A thick heavier maple taste in an ale. Cheer’s. P.S. This beer had a bit of a grassy bite to it. This beer was kinda like an English bitter/IPA.*UPDATE*:Drinking the last of the 3 bottles May 7th. Taking my time with it I am getting a beer with a nice lightly medium maple taste. May be the most & best maple I tasted of all 3. The ale’s allright otherwise but true the maple taste is like the best part. Cheers!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from their spring 2014 seasonal six-pack. Nose not that strong on this beer. Mostly malts with just the occasional hint of maple. Pours a clear dark brown with a beige head that reduces to a ring around the edge of the glass. Tastes heavy on the malts, an upfront hit of smoke, some bitterness that sticks around for the finish. And maple floating around the back as a general sweetness. This is the third one I’ve had of these (3 per pack) and while I’ve enjoyed the beer, I’m not overwhelmed. Used to be enthralled with Mill St as it was right a the forefront, in Toronto, of this craft brew renaissance we’re in right now. Super hoppy (for the time) Tankhouse, innovative Organic, etc. But they’ve failed to really keep pace with the awesome brews being produced out there. Not to say they don’t have a few good ones for sale both in-store and at their brew-pub but...
