Tap. Boilermaker. Pours a heavy looking black body with a nice one finger frothy dark brown head that had great retention. The nose is quite hoppy and full of roasted and dark chocolate maltiness. A mix of an Imperial Stout and an IPA. The flavor is much the same. Very hoppy with lots of green fresh hoppiness up front, fading to a more roasty and burnt maltiness. Fairly well hidden alcohol if this is indeed 9.5%. Medium bodied with a lingering burnt finish that’s also just a bit too sweet for my tastes. Pretty full bodied and chewy with moderate fizzy carbonation. Not bad, but I could do with a little less sweetness on the back end.

Draft at Capone’s. Pours dark blackish with tan head. Nose is black patent malt, chocoff, roasty. Tastes roasty dark choco malty, with notes of cacao, coffee, and mild anise. Finishes smooth and silky, with backup hops, a solid complexity, and a great companion to the Snickers pie.

Fantastic! So hoppy that I thought I might have been drinking a Black IPA rather than an Imperial Stout. The alcohol is well hidden. Great hoppy nose with a nice toffee/dry finish.
