ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 7, 2008 Bottle. Remarkably aromatic for a light beer. Moderately sweet with roasted malt notes. Ales, be they amber or otherwise are typically hazy in appearance. This brew is so crystal clear that I can see my finger prints on the other side of the glass. Not much head or lace. Very initial mouthfeel is of roasted malt, followed quickly by a hint of metalic. For folks who like dry, malty beers without any hop bite, this beer is a nice low cal alternative without constantly reminding you that it’s low cal. I’ve had average ESBs that aren’t much different than this brew and probably had 40% more calories. Miller says this brew is designed to compete with Fat Tire. I don’t drink enough Fat Tire to comment all that intelligently about that, although my recollection of Fat Tire is that it had a little more of a hop presence, but perhaps not all that much more flavor. Probably more of a competitor for Sam Adams Light without the cache, and I’m guessing with a lower price point. Not a bad light beer at all. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jan 31, 2008 Sampled via 12-oz bottle at Cellars Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear light copper amber brew with a fast dissolving white head that dissipates nearly clean with a thin film top. Aroma of light multi-grain malt, some corn adjunct, and a light citrus zest. Taste is light bodied, with some carbonation, a thin multi-grain biscuit flavor with some kumquat zest and floral hop character. Finish has a light malty grain flavor, quite watery that changes to a clean cut aftertaste with no bitterness. The best way to describe this is not much different than regular Miller Lite (diet) beer with some amber color added. Artillery (17), Lawton, Oklahoma, USA Aug 23, 2008 I thought this was going to not be a good beer, but I gave it a shot and what good try by miller. I thought for it being a lite beer and made for the main stream they did a great job. I would not buy it again, but if someone wanted to start trying out different beers this would be cool for them to give shot thejoeshow (232), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Mar 1, 2008 Light copper in color with a nice head that quickly dissipates. corn nose. Flavor is very similar to miller lite with a very slight hint of malt. side by side they are not that dissimilar. It almost has a "heavy" miller lite feel to it. overall not bad. mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Mar 3, 2008 Bottle from Albertsons. Light amber colored. Slightly sweet acidic aroma with maybe a hint of malt. Bready flavors with a some tart kind of thing going on. A little caramelization for good measure as well. arventresca (334), Greenville, North Carolina, USA Jun 1, 2008 Considering what it is and what it is attempting, it is not bad. Kind of reminds me of a hoppier Molson Canadian. For a "light beer" not bad. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jan 31, 2008 Amber color with no head. Aroma of corn and very dry chocolate. It actually smelled pretty good, but... it tastes like a bucket of rainwater with a half pound of grain and corn left in it for a hot August weekend. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA Jan 30, 2008 Pours a light clear, fiery orangish hue. Nose is very grainy and a little metallic with a hint of citrus. Very biscuity doughy malt profile with a hint of floral hops, but the metallic kinda piney hops really throw it off. Of the three this is the only offensive one as far as I’m concerned.
