A variant of the Douce Vertus (changes yearly). According to the brewer, if people enjoy his Christmas version, it then becomes the ’Douce Vertus’ until the next winter brew where he changes up either some of the hops or malts.

2011: maris otter malt.

Bottle. A clear, amber colored beer topped by a dense, light beige head of moderate size. The aroma gives a dryish impression, with some caramel, nuts and dried fruits. Lightly earthy both in aroma and flavor. Else the flavor has nuts and caramel, some bitterness and prunes in the back. Dry, medium bodied and a bit hard on the carbonation. Not my favorite Belgian Christmas beer, but a decent one anyway. 120622

33cl bottle.

Bottle from A Tutta Birra, Milano
lame label

Hazy dark amber color, with giant head, and too much yeast in the bottle and under the cap. Some aroma of medium roasted malts and mild spices. Good body, dark caramel flavor; dusty chocolate, maybe with a nutty and spicy edge; there is also some yeast astringency. Quite good, but rough.

Hazy amber/red color with great head. Butterscotch aroma and flavor. A great beer but lacks the Xmas sweetness and so on.

Sampled at OBER Kerstbierfestival Essen 2011. Opaque dark red color, small off-white to beige head. Smell and taste sweetness, lightly some hops. Decent carbonation, medium body. Note: according to information in the festivalbook: "Brewer Daniël Lessage alters his recipe each year and therefore also the name of the christmas-beer changes".
