Pensez-y !

Amarante is the name of a delicatessen in Virton (B) held by a licensed herbalist sommelier and winemaker. With their cooperation, we married one of our beers with two exotic peppers. One year of work for a very aromatic, sweet and powerful at the same time, a perfect balance of flavors and peppery hoppy beer. The partnership calls other ... Think about it!

Beer spiced with some exotic pepper variety. Thin but stable, off-white head, amber colour with orange glow, hazy. Aroma not unlike pepper cream sauce of the kind often served with steak, caramel, nuts, nutmeg, chilli, meat, peach. Soft fruity onset, caramelly and nutty malt base, quickly accompanied by a spicy effect of chilli pepper and green pepper corns, some peppery hoppiness in the finish too. Great if you like spicy food but it’s easy to see why people who don’t, will find this abominable.

bottled. murky amber with a short-lived head; aroma of truck stop pepper, compost, cleaning products; little malt backbone, leaving the truck stop pepper flavours horribly exposed

Slightly hazy amber and copper coloured body with a thin, fast-dying white head. Aroma of bright black pepper, pink pepper, light hops, bunches of sweetness, a touch of yeast and more pepper - very nice smelling, intoxicating, almost! Medium-bodied; Assertive pepper flavour up front that isn’t spicy at all with a more mellow flavour in the middle with a little malt, fruit sweetness, some other herbs and a touch of earthy bitterness at the end. Aftertaste is mildly complex with pepper dominating and showing some sweetness and a lot of dry characteristics. Overall, a very nice complex beer that you wouldn’t expect too much, but good all around! I’m glad I brought this back home with me and would tell anyone else to do the same, assuming you can find it! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Delices & Caprises in Bruxelles, Belgium on 19-August-2013 for €2,00 sampled at home on the other side of the Atlantic in Washington on 12-March-2014.

Polecam to intrygujace piwo

Bottle. Coppery cloudy. Sweet, overripe vanilla stone fruits on nose, a bit of bready malts, lime green citurs. Spicy herbal medium body, slight oily. Sweet malts with rosemary, peppers, a bit of heat even. Strange. feels too perfumy, soapy. Like something they’d sell at The Body Shop(tm).

Bottle at Dean’s stickiest floor tasting. Pours a hazy blonde beer with a very thin, white head on top. Aroma is cinnamon, peppers and yeast. Flavor is sweet peppery and loads of cinnamon again. The spicyness of the pepper is not really detected, more a sweeter flavor. Quite unbalanced and sweet overall.

Bottle at Deano’s monthly tasting, September 2013. Poured a cloudy medium amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is toffee caramel and fruit. The flavour is dry malt and a little fruit. A very odd beer.
