On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Clear orange-brown body, medium creamy buff head. Nose of leafy, citrusy, fresh hops. Bright body with floral, soapy, catty hops and biscuity malts. Resinous and oily with light sweetness, finishing bitter. By-the-numbers but solid.

From notes. First reviewed 9/3/2011. Poured from a 16 oz. can into a pint glass. This pours a full caramel color with golden edges. A billowing white cap forms initially and really clings to the glass. Great retention. The nose has bready malt with a hint of caramel sweetness. There is a grassy hop aroma as well. The initial flavor is totally related to the malt bill. Pale malt imparts a chewy, bready flavor with a bit of honey and caramel as well. The taste becomes well balanced when the hops kick in. Mostly a grassy bitterness with a little bit of grapefruit citrus as well. This never tries to become a hop bomb, just a well-balanced pale. One of the strengths of this beer is the balanced feel. At the start it is slightly sticky and sweet, with some hop oil cutting through with a pleasant bitterness, leaving behind some grassy hop oil. The carbonation is pleasantly creamy and smooth, and there is a light grainy feel as well. Medium bodied. This is a solid pale ale that doesn’t try to do too much. It is relaxed and balanced, with a nice malt sweetness balanced out by the grassy hoppiness.

can that bubbled quite a bit once once popped... dark gold with a light tan head... smells infected, oak, lots of brett and a bit lactic... more brett, basically thats the whole thing, if this was a wild it would be ok but as a pale ale, terrible

16 oz pounder can: Aroma has got a nice candied hops tinge to it with a bit of caramel malt poking through. Sweet and resinous. Appearance is a amber/golden with a thick white head that sticks around for quite a while. Taste has got a nice resin hop taste to it, malt coming through, grainy, with a bready aftertaste that lingers. Palate is medium carbonation with a sticky mouth feel. Overall, Decent pale ale. I like the cans. Cheers!

On tap. Pours a brown amber color with a large foamy canvas colored head. Notes of brown sugar, cookies, burnt malt, and some citrus hops. Nice thicker moutfeel and good finish length. Not bad.

Nice rich amber coloured body with a copper glow and a thick tan head - nice look to the beer. Aroma of fresh hops, a good malt backbone and a light citrus aromatic as well. Medium-bodied; Strong fresh hop flavour of herbal and citrus tastes with a good malt backbone, some caramel and sweetness at the end. Aftertaste shows a good bitter character with the fresh hops really coming through and the malt backbone definitely shows well. Overall, a good APA, definitely showing a good balance of malt and hops with a potent citrus taste - a very nice beer, in a tall (sixteen ounce) can as well. A great beer that I wish I could get at my local store! I sampled this 50 cL can purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 30-July-2010 for US$2.29, sampled at home in Washington on 01-November-2010.

Pours vibrant copper with a robust head that lingers for a while. Nose is mild and offers some hop notes, towards the citrus side. Hint of soapiness. The entire taste note is bitter but it varies greatly throughout the sip, there’s a burst of sweet and bitter up front, it mellows a bit in the middle to allow you take in some of the caramel malt, then a sustained bitter finish. Nicely composed but for an American pale ale it’s a tad too bitter and probably too dark in color, but it’s still a decent brew. The nose leaves a lot lacking but it makes up for that with a fairly unique taste profile.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2010 Courtesy of northernbrews

Can: The aroma consists of caramel, grain, fruit, and light citrus hops. It pours a hazy amber with a moderate off-white head with decent retention. The flavor starts with caramel, fruit, light grain, and a hint of chocolate. The finish has some light citrus hops with a touch of pine. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel.

Stood in front of the cooler pondering if I should purchase a $4.00 can of beer but how can I resist a new Michigan beer. And 2 cans later what a good decision. Whether straight from the can or in a traditional pint glass this one very drinkable beer. It is similar to one of those bad carbonated English beers but with all kinds of flavor. Some subtle hops and caramel sweetness with a frothy creamy mouth feel.
