TheBeerOrg (1391), Kentucky, USA Apr 8, 2008 Pours pitch black with a fully receding dark brown head. Aroma of mild roast, chocolate, molasses, and toffee. Tastes of debittered roast, chocolate, toffee, and oatmeal. Medium to full bodied with spritzy caronation. I thought this was a good stout, certainly underrated.
Papsoe (10285), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 25, 2008 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of pepsican. Pours an opaque dark brown with an orange hue and a small light brown head. Sweetish aroma of hard roasted malt. Quite full-bodied for such a low ABV beer with plenty of sweetish roasted malts a whiff of coffee and an edge of dried fruits. Has a light malt bitterness in the finish. 220808 Naven (726), San Diego, California, USA Sep 12, 2008 I’m pretty sure this is my first beer from Iowa. Not bad. Light in body, but still a nice cocoa & malt flavor. Lively carbonation and easy to drink. Kind of a funky flavor at the end. Fairly interesting, and definitely better than the score suggests, but nothing I would seek out again. yngwie (3602), Kristiansand, Norway Sep 1, 2008 Bottle. A dark brown beer with a small, tan head. Chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee in the aroma. A bit one-dimentional maybe, but quite nice. The flavor has beef-stock, coffee, chocolate, a little touch of butterscotch and a coffee bitter finish. Medium body, quite dry, yet with a sweetish feeling. Sweetness, coffee and some butterscotch as well, in the finish. A quite nice one, but nothing more. Easy to drink, but maybe a bit dry for an oatmeal stout. (080822) yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 24, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with fully diminished tan head. Almost smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma, quite dark and slight roasted. Roasted malt base flavour with a smooth chocolate note and a reappearing roasted malt flavour showing a distinct acidity into the finish. Lingering chocolate malty finish. GAManiac (339), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 1, 2008 Pours a dark, dark brown that appears black in the glass with mahogany tints around the edges. The head is small but dense and fades quickly leaving only hints of lacing. The smell is dominated by dark roasted malts, chocolate and burnt coffee. The taste is not quite as distinctive as the smell but does have a little more sweetness in the form of molasses up front. Then it’s more of the roasted coffee and malts with a slightly bitter coffee finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little thin for the style. This is a very drinkable stout though I’m not sure what the lager label is about. Either way, nothing distinctive but not too bad.
