COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The ’oatmeal’ in the name is due the 10% oatmeal in the the grist of this brew. Oats give beer a real thick mouthfeel, something definitely desirable in a stout! But the real secret is in our lager yeast. Most stouts are made using ale yeast, but we wanted ours to be a smooth as our lagers! Black malt and roasted barley give the beer its color, and coffee-like flavors.

#28 of my Stouts of November: Opaque with a foamy tan head and good lace. Aroma hints of burnt malt, molasses, mocha, nuts, oats, aromatic hops, cheery, dusty yeast, and smoke. The taste is acidic and tart with most of the malt sweetness subdued. Smoky and dry on the finish with a light bitterness. Watery and with a strange chalky feel. This is not a sweet stout, not a dry either. A hybrid stout that should just be listed as stout(the lager yeast may have something to do with that).

Not real great... No head... Light and syrup ie looking ... No big deal ...the main downside was the taste and over all drinking enjoyment period... it offered a half step or more below average oatmeal stout drinking experience... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Roasted nose. Sweet tasting stout. Lacks body and is watery on the finish. Ok easy drinking stout but lacks elite characteristics.

Bottle from Brennan’s as Backroad Stout. Pours cola colored with a slightly reddish tint. Tan head leaving very fine lacing. Aroma has caramel, molasses and peat. Taste is of sweet caramel, bitter roast and faint chocolate. Quite earthy. The aroma became more and more offputting through the glass. Finishes tangy carbonated, sweet and bacterial. Bad bottle?

pours a dark brown almost black...tan full head smells of roasted malts, and dark chocolate, taste is about the same with a little earthy taste, a slight dark chocolate hangs on the tongue. I enjoy mixing this 50/50 with the amber

12 ounce bottle from pepsican. Thanks! Back Road Stout label. Lots of yeast is left in the bottle. Pours an opaque black color with a thin fizzy head that quickly fades. The taste is rich roasted malts, oatmeal, caramel, coffee and bitter hops. Aroma of slightly acrid roasted malts. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Decent.
