COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pale Ale's on the coasts of this country are turning into hoppy monsters, but our beer is more mild, and about balance. It has enough bitterness to match the maltiness provided by the pale malt base. It gets its citrus zing from extensive dry-hopping with Cascade hops. This beer was first made in a few small test batches in 2003. The response was so incredibly positive, that it has worked it’s way into a year round beer. A hoppy IPA in the central plains... how exciting!

In trade with ketchepillar, 12 oz. bottle poured into shaker- poured slightly hazy darken caramel, nice off white-tan head stayed around for quite awhile. Aroma of light hops with malt overtone, very appealing. Hits the mouth with a thin-medium body, while the hops are very noticeable they are not overpowering and are balanced with malt, finish is a touch of sweetness. It may have been aged, but I likey!!!

On tap at the Millstream Brewing Company beer garden. Maybe it was the fresh pour from the tap, or maybe it was the weather, or something like that, but I really enjoyed this on my recent Sunday visit to the Amana Colonies. So this is a relabelled version of Warsh Pail? It seems better to me, a fuller body, fuller mouthfeel, and more hops. The body is medium copper colored with a light khaki head. The aroma has some just-sliced grapefruit and light bread crust. There is also some nutty character. The taste has some out-of-the-oven bread crust with some light orange peels behind that. Very quaffable and quite likeable, a decent ale from Germans in Iowa.

Roasted malts not good. Aroma less present and thin head. Say random bad stuff. Okay, it’s crap. I didn’t like it much at all. Who roasts malts in a pale ale anyways? I once had someone try to tell me that the "pale" doesn’t mean color, but something about extra hoppiness, I was like, "wut???"

Originally reviewed: 5/14/09. Pours a deep copper orange with a decent 2-finger ivory head on top. Minimal retention leaves some decent sip rings and sticky webs on the glass. Nice. Smells like biscuits, caramel, and floral hops. Pleasant. The mouthfeel on this is overly carbonated. This is extremely spritzy and biting. I’m turned off by this. Flavor is slightly of caramel at first, mixed with some bready, husky flavor, but this turns quickly to a sour, slightly astringent flavor. This is different I must say. Not bad, but not that great. Glad I had the chance to try it though.

Draft in Iowa. Red-amber with good, creamy, off-white head / Nose of sour malt, bread, and citrus / Medium, chewy, body, bright and lively, with good balance and dry, lightly bitter, finish / Flavors of sour malt, brown sugar, bread, grapefruit, orange, and dry hops / Not a classically defined IPA, more of an amber ale, but a very fine brew.

Bottle. Nice reddish gold pour with a good foamy clingy white head. Aroma is caramel malts and a touch of grass. Medium palate. Taste is caramel and toffee forward, some citrus hops, and an earthy element. Not bad.

12 oz bottle pour. Hazy dark gold copper, with a spare head and OK lacing. Aroma is some hops of indistinguishable character, lots of sweet malt. Toffee and caramel. Taste is a bit of citrus hops, a touch of pine resin, lots of caramel malt sweetness. Slightly grainy. Something a bit metalic on the end. Slightly sweet finish, not really any lasting bitterness. Meh.

Hazy copper orange with nice dense head and lace. Doughy malty aroma with mild orange hop. Sweet honey peach biscuit with mildly bitter grassy finish. Nothing especially good or bad about it. Decent creamy palate. Non-descript.
