COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

Bottle poured a clear amber with a lasting ivory head. Aroma of toasted malt, carmel, light graininess and a hint of earthiness. Palate was medium, bodied and smooth. Flavors of toasted malt, earthiness and carmel with a smooth lingering malty finish.

Quaffable and satisfying. A medium yellow colour, minimum white head. Neutral aroma, medium mouthfeel. Decent beer all around,I could have one or two. Nothing edgy or really tasty though. Appropriate carbonation.

355mL courtesy of Atom. The pour is a hazy, orange amber. A large, beige head erupts with sheen, rocky appearance. Spotty lace. Nose is honey wheat bread, fresh orange, dough, rustic malt. Very nice actually. Taste is rich with unfortunately some heavy metallic character coming through and finishing with mild lemon and soap. Really hits the palate with quenching viscosity and citrus. Was in the running to be a real treat, but metallic notes throw it off.

Pint at the brewery tasting room. Crisp, fresh, livey hay flavored malts (lightly sweet, lightly chewy) with some greenish vegetal notes and some caramel chewiness, finishing with a mild tawng on the back. Good overall.

Bottle from iowaherkeye via Mystery Swap 2.0. Pours clear deep ruby color with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, red wine grapes, toffee. Tastes caramel malty, with some cabernet notes, honey, toffee, and slight hops. Fairly rich palate, with a lot of fruity notes.

Acquired via trade. The beer is a dark copper/amber color with a thin beige head that dissipated rather quickly. Very thin lacing. Lightly malty aroma, with a hint of nuts. Medium-bodied with a flavor somewhere between a Marzen and a regular Amber. There is a tartness under the malt and caramel that made the character seem a little off. However it was still fairly easy to drink. The finish is alternatingly fruity and malty. Overall not an exceptional beer but it is smooth with a nice taste.
