COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

Light burnt orange color with very little white head. Aroma of dough and some stale malt. Crisp, albeit watery flavor with some notes of caramel and dough. A bit of Hallertau hops in the finish. Pretty bland and nondescript.

Big thanks to GT2 for this one in trade. CHeers, GT! Pours a hazy orange-amber with a small white head. Nose is light German malts with some lager and some mild grassy hops. Flavor is similar- light malts and some hops with a bit of yeast. Light to medium in body and a decent Vienna.

12oz bottle, from Brennanís in Madison. Purchased during GTMW. June is notched on the label. Mostly clear darker amber color. Thin off-white head. Leaves decent dots and ropes of lace. Caramel malt and dark fruit dominate flavor. Some toastiness, hints of chocolate. Medium body. Kind of slick texture. Kind of soft, rougher carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, light weird bite at the end. Gets better as it sits and warms up a bit, but still sort of overly malty and sweet.

Pour is dark brown with a reddish tint. Small head with absolutely no retention. Little carbonation. Aroma is light (no head to help with no aroma) - slightly sweet and roasted malt. Taste is roasted malts from the aroma with a bit of sweetness. Very light mouthfeel with no carbonation. Finish is lighty toasted malt. For something that is suppose to be an Octoberfest this is a poor representation. Not offensive, but very boring.

Pretty standard amber; it strikes me that the length of the commercial description may be inversely related to the depth of flavors--I canít think that this needs this much of a write-up: itís just your basic "broad appeal" beer. Bottle.
