COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

Sampled at the DC/MD/VA/WV/PA Ratebeer Gathering 11/20/04. Clear copper. Aroma is very lightly malty. Taste has notes of caramel, apple and some wheat. Extremely thin and watery. Overall, eh.

Deep auburn color. Subtle nose which hints of butterscotch, caramel and currant, along with a touch of medicinal hops. Taste is not cloying, which I often find in this style, but not very substancial either. Light malt flavor. Boring, somewhat bland.

Golden amber, little head w/ some spots of lace. Typical Millstream character--sweet w/o much in the way of hops. Drinkable but like all their beers there’s nothing special.

Bottle, upping my Iowa cred. Lots of caramel on the nose, grainy and pretty plain. Enjoyable to drink, nothing special here. Not a fan of the style really.

Pours amber with a tan head. Has a macrobrew aroma, I don’t know how else to describe it. This beer is easy to drink, but not much out there. Some light caramel malt flavor. Not much in the way of hop aroma. This may be a good transitional beer, but not not much to crave here.

Pours a golden carmel with a thin white smell of bread and yeast with a hint of fruit....Taste is bitter yeast dough mess...this beer is a nice accent piece if you mix it with the stout.....

Orange-copper, puffy white head. Nose bready, bit adjuncty. Harsh, caramel, hoppy, off.
