COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has primary notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as lighter notes of wheat bread, alcohol, and bread - reminds me of a bock. love the maltyness of this brew

12oz bottle 9/28/13 (Hy-Vee Cedar Rapids)-Pours a clear amber with a small off white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, and grains. Taste of the same. This light to medium bodied brew was pretty tasty.

On tap at the brewery. Amber and clear appearance with an off-white, light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, caramelized malts, earthy hops, light spices and toffee. Similar flavor, toasted/roasted malts and a smooth, crisp medium body. Wow.

This amber lager has a slightly coppery hue that is rather lovely. Gotta love that even, robust head, too. The aroma hints at warm caramel and slightly smoky malt. The taste reveals a lot of sweetness that’s tempered by some nuttiness. I feel that lagers like this are often overlooked. While an amber lager doesn’t have the same flavor profile or complexity of an ale, good lagers should have a spot in every beer lover’s heart. This one is definitely worthy of consideration. Schild Brau may not blow your mind, but it’s a solid example of the style.

Bottle, upping my Iowa cred. Lots of caramel on the nose, grainy and pretty plain. Enjoyable to drink, nothing special here. Not a fan of the style really.

Received this beer a couple years ago. Light caramel malt aroma. Pours a golden brown red, off white head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. The taste is non-descript, so umami. The body id light, the texture thin and slick, the carbonation soft and the finish short and a slight bitterness. OK, shouldn’t have let it age at 4.9% but didn’t really have any choice. Maybe the next time my buddy goes to Wisconsin I can drink this sooner. Not a fair rating.

12 oz bottle. A. From Iowa. Thanks go to John M.
Clear amber colour with a small off-white head. Malt, nuts and... nuts and... nuts in the aroma. Dryish. The flavour is malt, sweetness and a touch of hops. Boring.

Tap, deep cloudy amber. Medium white head with medium/heavy lacing. Malty aroma. Medium bitter/sweet taste. Average carbonation and a medium body, finished clean. Overall, looked stunning but nothing spectacular in regards to flavor and aroma.
