3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Okay, call me prejudiced because I’m from Iowa, which doesn’t have a major brewing scene, but this is one of the best “ambers” I‘ve had. Has a nice malty smell and pours a thick brownish head over an excellent coppery, bubbly body. There's a big caramel and brown sugar maltiness, with the right balance of German hops to keep it from getting too cloying. Won a Bronze at GABF, where it competed as a Vienna, and at the North American Brewers Association where it competed as a Mârzen. Go figure. Just a short detour off I-80 at the Colonies.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
An okay amber. Near to no aroma. The flavor is a bit off. The malts taste like they were roasted just a bit too long, and the hops add a level of surprising astringency.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not my preferred style of beer, but everything about it seemed to mesh together. I liked it, but I’m certainly not going to the store to purchase it.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Out of the bottle dated June. Dark amber/copper hue with a small amount of haze, white head with medium lacing. Nutty with caramel notes and a hint of smoke on the finish. Mouth feel is crisp with some decent carbonation. Sweetness in the beginning finished with an earthy mild bitterness. Very pleasant overall roasted malt flavor and balanced example of style.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle, from Brennan’s in Madison. Purchased during GTMW. June is notched on the label. Mostly clear darker amber color. Thin off-white head. Leaves decent dots and ropes of lace. Caramel malt and dark fruit dominate flavor. Some toastiness, hints of chocolate. Medium body. Kind of slick texture. Kind of soft, rougher carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, light weird bite at the end. Gets better as it sits and warms up a bit, but still sort of overly malty and sweet.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
bottle @ John’s Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Hazy medium orange amber with a good ivory head that drops to a light cover, tiny dots of lace. Taste is semi-sweet caramel malt that moves directly through the palate to a finish that is more fizz than it is hops. Either way, it’s enough to balance. Not a big deal, but drinkable.
