Originating in England in the 19th century, Barley Wine is a strong style of ale. Our Smokehouse Barley Wine has a rich toasted malt character with a smooth and warming effect when drank. The big malt character is counterbalanced with the addition of a nice hop bitterness. It has a smoky brown color to it. With a mellow cherry wood smoked aroma and flavor, this is a beer to enjoy in the cold months to come.

12oz bottle courtsey of PEPSIEDCAN and the great state of IOWA. Pours a cloudy amber with a generous sized head which eventually fades into a ring but still hangs around. Jesus, the nose on this beer is amazing... A dew filled morning after a night of camping... The ashes still smoldering, a few beer cans strewn about. Roasted hot dogs and sunshine... Hangovers and raccoon shit. Honestly, I have high hopes for this beer. First sip... OH MY GOD IS THIS FUCKING TERRIBLE. Way, way overdone on the artificial liquid smoke. Fuck, this beer is like just straight chugging liquid smoke. So fake, so chemical tasting, so repulsive. There is no way in hell I can finish this 12oz bottle, and I can chug some nasty shit, believe me. Holy Hell, this is the worst Barleywine Iíve ever had. Do. Not. Buy.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Smokey and a little boozy. Dark fruits and some caramel. Good, but not great.

No date on bottle. Pours a nice deep red with quickly fading head, decent lacing, and lots of yeast sediment. Aroma is smoked meats, woody campfire, and peat. Also, a little richness from some dark fruit, but overall the aroma is too heavy on the processed meat vibe. Taste is similar, with a little malt up front before diving in to the smoked wood taste. Iím not a big fan of smoke beers anyway, but it was a little interesting having a barleywine as a base. Not much alcohol detected, but I wasnít excited to finish this one.

Bottle, LOL. Pour is copperish, soooo much smoked meats. Taste like a butcher shop that was set on fire for a little bit. I really liked smoked meats, which is awesome. This beer just doesnít do it for me. Its not bad, just interesting.

Pours a reddish copper with almost no head with some grain particles floating in the beer. Aroma was faint, perhaps a bit of smoke. Very creamy and nice viscosity, the taste is smoke, sweet barley malt, some caramel, licorice and alcohol. Smokiness dominates the flavor profile. Not my favorite barleywine, but a decent brew.

Quite smoky, and the alcohol is not overpowering. Could be more complex, but I got a single for under $2, which was a good deal.

Bottle. Pours amber with a beige head. Sweet and smoked malts, with hints of burlap, and light floral bitterness in the finish. Good stuff.

12oz bottle-tan-dk amber. A-smoke, med malt-roast. T-smoke/peat/ashy, med malt-roast/caramel, some earthy hops. Wrong mouthfeel for a barleywine.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of randompepsiedgarbagedcanned. Thanks bro! Pours a hazy, dark reddish orange appearance with a light brown head that thins pretty quickly. Kind of a burnt woody smoked, caramel, a touch fruity, just a bit spicy aroma. Chewy, sweet BBQ, applewood, toffee, smoked woody, a bit herbal, fairly well balanced beer. Nice offering.

Bottle shared by JCWattsrugger. Pours reddish amber with off white head. Nose and taste of smoke, candied malt, peat, brown sugar and dark fruit. A bit too smoky with not much else going on. Quick finishing - lighter than medium body.

Pours a gorgeous deep red with a small but tight and well retained head.

The aroma is rich and smoky, really similar to a dialed down version of The Schlenkerla Urbock... That same rich but clean smoky character, that some light sweetness, that same light fruitiness. This stuff is has a very inviting aroma.

The flavor is less balanced and awesome, It is indeed nicely smoky but there are a lot of other elements here that donít seem to jive all that well together. Itís a bit soapy right up front and there is a very odd apple skin character that is as dominant if not more dominant than the smoke, I generally like a little red apple skin as a note of complexity in beer, but itís extremely forward here and not in a great way. The alcohol is noticeable but the beer isnít offensively boozy or anything.

Mouthfeel is bit & the low carbonation is pulled off very well here.
